COVENANT UNIVERSITY

College of Engineering
Department of Electrical and Information Engineering
Course Title: Digital Signal Processing Course Code: ICE 517
Semester: Alpha Time: 2 hours Contact Time per Week
Course Units: Two (2) Location: EIE 500LH
Instructor(s): Dr ADEWALE Adeyinka Ajao (Course Coordinator)
Engr. AKUA Denen Collins (Co-Lecturer)

a) Course overview and description

The course empowers the students with the fundamentals of digital signal processing, and
its practical application, also the implementation of DSP on general system processors
such as computers and digital filters. Transforms methods such as Z-transforms, Discrete
Fourier Transform and Fast Fourier Transform are also taught in this course. Furthermore,
filter design is an important component of this course carefully packaged to equip the
students with the requisite knowledge in designing DSP systems. The course motivates
students to be innovative, creative, and develop ingenuity at applying the principles of
digital signal processing in their day to day endeavors

i) Alignment with Covenant University Vision/Goals

2
The course aligns with capacity building, this is because Digital Signal Processing will
empower and equip the students with the requisite skills, & knowledge to thrive in the
industry and to make impact in every area of their endeavor. .

j) Term Paper and Assignments

- Assignments/Students activities will be 60% dependent on the discovery made,
questions arising from class discussion and during lectures
-
k) Contemporary Issues and Industrial Relevance
Digital Signal Processing (DSP) is critical in modern-day because everyone is directly
or indirectly related to Digital Signal Processing and its applications. To this end,
DSP as a course will avail the students studying Information & Communication
Engineering (ICE) the opportunity to have both the theoretical & hands-on experience
to solve communications (Telecoms) problems both in the academia & engineering
industry. Particularly in the ever changing world of computer enabled processes found
in the telecommunication industry and computer engineering where essential signal
processing services are provided by devices and computers. Furthermore, the
application of the knowledge of filter design in designing robust digital filtering
systems will be helpful to engineers in both academia and industry.
