Writing task: Using electronic devices

In contemporary times, the growth of humans'need to improve their life has led to the
increasing use of electronic devices, which is widely believed to have adverse effects on
teenagers' reading and writing skills. This idea is completely convincing, and this essay shall
clarify my rationales.

The first point to discuss is that technological devices are mostly used by young people for
entertaining purposes such as playing games, surfing the Internet. The youngsters thereby
spend less time on studying, which leads to the decline in the overall academic performance,
including reading and writing skills as well. This drawback will become an obstacle for the
youngsters’ studying career in the future.

Another point to mention is the way electronic devices affect teenagers’ mentality. When
they constantly watch entertaining contents on social networks, a large amount of dopamine
is secreted as a contributor to cognitive impatience. This makes teenagers no longer have
the patience, concentration to comprehend thoughts, arguments in literature and demanding
text.

Furthermore, using technological devices is causing concern about young people’s

consciousness about the appropriation of words. A compelling example is that the more
teenagers use social networks, the more they get familiar with the language there which
appears on status and messages. Moreover, children and teenagers have little awareness
about the distinction between informal and formal language that is mandatory in reading and
writing at school. Therefore, they might have the tendency to misuse vocabulary and
punctual marks, causing serious grammatical errors.

By and large, young people’s reading and writing ability is adversely affected by the use of
electronic devices on a wide range, specifically leading to the decline in the academic
performance and concentration and the misusing of the Internet language. In order to reduce
the drawbacks, the use of technological devices among young people should be restricted.
