Introduction
Technology has revolutionized the way we live, work, and communicate. From
computers, smartphones to social media platforms, technological advancements have integrated
seamlessly into our daily lives. However, as technology has become more prevalent, concerns
have emerged regarding their impact on our health. This essay will explore the extent to which
technology is damaging our health, highlighting both the physical and psychological impacts
associated with excessive technology use.
Impacts of Technology on Health
One of the most evident physical health concerns linked to technology is the rise in
sedentary behavior. According to WHO (2020), increased screen time is associated with higher
rates of obesity, heart disease, and other chronic health issues. Many individuals now spend
hours sitting in front of computers and televisions, often neglecting physical activity.
Furthermore, prolonged screen exposure can lead to vision problems, such as digital eye strain
(Wong et al., 2021). As people engage with screens for entertainment and work, the necessity of
physical exercise diminishes, posing significant risks to overall health.
In addition to physical ailments, technology significantly affects mental health. Research
by Twenge et al. (2019) indicates that social media use can correlate with increased feelings of
anxiety and depression, particularly among adolescents. The constant exposure to curated
realities can lead to negative self-comparisons, low self-esteem, and isolation. Additionally, the
addictive nature of many online platforms exacerbates these issues, as users find it increasingly
challenging to disconnect from their devices.

Conclusion
While technology has many advantages, it also poses threats to our overall health. From
promoting sedentary lifestyles to exacerbating mental health issues, the pervasive presence of
technology necessitates a balanced approach to its use. It is vital for individuals to reflect on their
technology habits and strive for a healthier relationship with their devices, fostering both
physical and mental well-being in an increasingly digital world.
