I got rejected twice on F1. Reason was, my husband is there in the same city. So here I am
sharing my experience.

It was not an interview at all.
She asked me to show spouse visa, marriage certificate, and asked whether I had told during my
F1 visa that my spouse at the same city where I am applying.... I answered honestly... Yes.

That's it. She approved my visa.

passed the same to her. She validated everything, put all the docs inside my passport and handed
it over back to me and asked to move to counter 37 for fingerprints verification. I moved to that
queue and got my fingerprints verified and joined the line for visa interview. Was then asked to
move to counter 24 for visa interview.

I provided only passport and F-2
F I20 after greeting the officer (male).

Me – She is currently studying officer.

He did not ask me _put your fingers on the scanner_ may be because I had my fingerprints
verified earlier at counter 37. No questions were asked about funding.

Finger prints and document verification done separately just before the interview. Post which we
were all sent to the counters to be interviewed.

Interview questions -
After greeting the VO, she asked me to pass all my documents. These documents were asked and
verified during the document verification just before the interview - F1 and F2 i20, wedding
certificate, F1's sevis receipt and passport.

And then she said that I will get the passport through the mail in a week.

Prepare all your documents, get your story right, practice the way you want to answer the
questions - a few mock sessions with your spouse/friends would help a lot. If your spouse is in
the last semester, make sure to mention that point and OPT start date, this makes your case
straight forward - completing the course and going to start the OPT soon means that the finances
to support yourselves are sorted.

*PS:* Its an experiment to try outside India, luckily it worked for me. It's not that I'm

status was showing refused, under Administrative processing. However I was w not given any
221G notice instead I was given approval slip. And it was a long wait from then, it took 2 weeks
after the interview for status to be changed to Approved and the next day it changed to Issued

returned after 16 days from interview

and Finally I got my passport stamped and returned

Though it took time, so much of tension running through my mind all the while, it's worth

My wife’s f2 visa got approved in Chennai today.

She was asked to pass the I20’s, passport, F1 visa copy, spouse’s passport copy and marriage
certificate upfront.

Only two questions were asked:

1. Is your husband studying in the US? No, he is on STEM OPT working for ‘the employer’ in
Wisconsin as a Design Engineer since ‘employment start date’

2. Were you recently married? Yes, in Oct 2022

Types for a while and asks to place fingers on the scanner and says
says approved.

Note: Length of stay I had mentioned in DS160 was a year. Also, learnt from my experience that
your I20 expiration date matters and not the expiration date on your F1 visa which for me is in 2
months but OPT valid for another year. Thought this
this might be helpful for a couple of people in
the group in the same situation.

- when the visa officer asks a question, they have to type the response. So, they make an eye-

contact for our first sentence and then start typing
- here, I felt we should keep on adding the answer what all we prepared for, not just stop when
visa officer start typing

I greeted and Passed the Passport and I20s.
