million people worldwide and is the world’s
leading cause of disability.
Nursing students struggle to cop up with not only
stressors common in higher education institutions
but also anxiety towards clinical placements
A study to assess the PREVALENCE OF
DEPRESSION AMONG BSC NURSING in Kamala
college of nursing which will look and comment the
knowledge asses regarding rate
,causes, prevention, treatment on depression.
The study assumed that 44% of prevalence of
depression is noted in Bsc nursing students are
efficient management for depression.
Almost 30 students were selected from selected
from First year sec., Third and fourth year. Among
them , the prevalence of depression is noted
almost up to 45%.
The total participants were limited only 50 students.

REVIEW OF LITERATURE.
CHAPTER – III
STATEMENT
A descriptive study to assess the prevalence of depression
among BSC Nursing student in selected Nursing college of
Bangalore
REVIEW OF LITERATURE
Review of literature is one of the most important
steps in research process. It is an account of what is
already known about a particular phenomenon. The
main purpose of literature review is to convey to the
readers about the work already done and the
knowledge and idea that have been already
established on a particular topic of research
The review of literature has been presented under
the following
1.Studies related to prevalence of depression
among BSC Nursing students.
2.Studies related to prevalence of depression
among 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th year BSC Nursing
student .
3. Studies related to association between
prevalence and socio demographic variables .
a) Studies related prevalence of
Depression among BSC Nursing student
In a meta analysis of 27 cross sectional studies
conducted by Tung et al.in 2018 the prevalence of
global depression in nursing student was reported
as 34.0% this suggests a high prevalence of
depression among nursing student in
comparison to the general population which was 4.7%[10]
b) Studies related to prevalence of
Depression among 1st , 2nd 3rd, 4th
year BSC Nursing student
Dr. Kajal Gupta focuses various emotional problems
and specialize in mental health in private hospital in
India.
Nursing student experience significant amount of
depression, anxiety and stress throughout their
undergraduate Education and there is limited
evidence regarding magnitude of depression,
anxiety and stress among them in India
C) Studies related to association between
prevalence variables
Depression is the most psychiatric disorder
reported is most of the community based studies. It
is also reported as one of the most common
psychiatric disorder out patient clinic population
and in subjects seen in various medical and
surgical settling. Studies from India have also
shows that life events during the period proceeding
the on
Set of depression play a major role in
depression.Studies on women have also shows the
importance of identifying risk factors like
interpersonal conflicts, marital disharmony and
sexual coercion.
The population based study from India the report
on depression shows that the prevalence of
depression was 15.1%india is home to an
estimated 57 million people (18% of the global
estimate).

CHAPTER VI
STATEMENT
A Descriptive study to assess the
prevalence of depression among BSC
Nursing student in selected Nursing
college of Bangalore
This chapter deals with finding . Discuss them
in relations in similar studies conducted by
other
researchers. The present statement of the
problem was “ A study to assess the
prevalence of depression among BSC Nursing
student in selected Nursing college Bangalore
with view developed information
Objectives of the knowledge
1. To assess the knowledge level
regarding prevalence of depression
among BSC Nursing student
2. To assess the level of practice
regarding prevalence of depression
among BSC Nursing student
3. To find out the association between level of
knowledge and socio demographic
variables of prevalence of depression
among BSC Nursing student among 1st ,
2nd, 3rd, 4th year BSC Nursing student
HYPOTHESIS:
H1: There will be not significant association
between level of knowledge and socio
demographic variables on prevalence of
depression among BSC nursing
student in selected Nursing college of
Bangalore among 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th year BSC
nursing students.
H2:There will be significant association
between the level of Practice and socio-
Demographic variables ,
among 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th year BSC nursing student.
The findings of the study are discussed
under the following headings.
SECTION A –
Distribution of socio demographic data of 1st,
2nd, 3rd, 4th year BSC nursing student.
SECTION B –
Distribution of Prevalence of Depression
among Bsc 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th year BSC nursing
students about
prevalence of depression among BSC Nursing student
SECTION C-
Association of knowledge and practice level of
1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th year BSC Nursing students with
selected socio demographic variables.
SECTION A-
Distribution of socio demographic data of 1st,
2nd, 3rd, 4th year BSC Nursing students.
. Most of the student age were between 21- 22
years .it is about 50% (25),19-20 years
20%(10)of students and almost 30%(15)
students belongs to age group of 20- 21 years
.
. In the selected samples 50% (25) of the
respondents were males and 50% (25) of
them were females .
. Majority of the respondents i.e. Christian (20)
were of 40 % , 20 % (10 )of them were
muslim,30% (15) of them were Hindu and
10%(5) of them were from other religion .
. Majority of the respondents were having
absence of prevalence of Depression i.e 56%
(28) while 44% (22) of the respondents were
not having the depression or associated
symptoms.
SECTION C-
Association of knowledge and practice level of
1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th year BSC nursing students with
selected socio demographic variables.
The study reveals the association between
level of knowledge and practice with selected
socio demographic variables, which states
that the
calculated value of chi square was less than
the table value which signifies that it is not
significant p<0.05 level with age, gender,
religion, Prevalence of
Depression and associated symptoms.
CONCLUSION

* Nurse should gain knowledge regarding
management ,causes and prevalence of
Depression among nursing students .
* Nurses should share the information related
to prevalence and management regarding
prevalence of Depression among Health care
workers and Health care students.
NURSING EDUCATION
The Nurse education should prepare
themselves to import health information
to all health care workers and health care
students regarding prevalence and
management of Depression in Nursing
students .
NURSING ADMINISTRATION
* The Nurse administration should take active
part in health, Mental Health programmes,
campaign to promote Mental Health, policy
making, development
of protocol, procedure and standing orders related to
prevalence of Depression in nursing student

knowledge and management about the
prevalence of depression in Nursing
students .
* Nurse researcher should conduct
workshop, seminar and should publish
research findings in
journals and news paper to communicate the findings
COMMENDATION
* A similar study can replicated in different
settings with large samples.
* A true experimental study can be conducted
by using random sampling and control group
