I. OVERVIEW
In the duration of this course, the student will be taught to construct their own webpages
using notepad, the basic text editor for Windows operating system, or TextEdit, a Mac
operating system’s counterpart for notepad. These applications will be used to ensure
that the students gain knowledge of the basic structure and syntax of HTML. Each
lesson the principles of web design will be observed in detail, such as the quality of
texts, icons, and images and the effectiveness of the layouts and hyperlinks. It delivers
a simplified learning material for students having the interest in learning the basic skills
in web development.
II. LEARNING OBJECTIVES
At the end of this module, the students will be able to:
1. Recognize the key points of web terminologies.
2. Produce a well-built website.
3. Understand the function of HTML tags and CSS Properties.
4. Assess other websites.
III. LESSON PROPER
Internet
The Internet is a worldwide system of a computer network. It can be
imagined as a network of switches and circuits. It is a chain of networks
based on the TCP-IP (Transmission Control Protocol/ Internet Protocol)
communication protocol.
Internet users can find essential services on the internet like:
Email – an efficient form of communication between internet
worldwide.
Telnet – a protocol that is used to connect remote computers over the
internet.
FTP – File Transfer Protocol
- a protocol used for transferring files over the internet.
UseNet news – a network of discussion groups where people can
exchange information.
World Wide Web (www) - a hypertext interface to Internet data.

World Wide Web (WWW)
The World Wide Web, or the Web as we call it, is a basic structure for
accessing the internet. But with new technologies today, it is not the only
means of going through the internet. Nowadays, we have other platforms
that can access the internet like email and mobile apps. The web is different
from other systems because it uses HyperText Transfer Protocol (HTTP).
The Web was created by Tim Bernes-Lee. He is also the one of the current
leaders of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).
Web Page and Website
Web page is an archive of information accessible through the internet. They
are saved on the web server and can be seen using a web browser.
A webpage can incorporate extensive data inclusive of graphics
video, audio, text and hyperlinks. Hyperlinks are connected to the other
web pages.
A collection of related webpages us called a website. It is a place used to
display a content. Websites are presented by a URL (Unique Resource
Locator), or is commonly called a web address. A website can be composed
of static web pages or dynamic webpages.
The components of the URL as follows:
Protocol – method used to process the URL.
Domain – the domain name of the webpage.
Path – A section and page on the site.
Hash – identifier of the page.
There are different types of web pages:
Static Web Pages – they are loaded on a browser as how they saved
on the webserver. It is called a stationary or flat web page.
Dynamic Web Page – It is possible to change a part of this webpage
loading the whole web page. This web page shows varied information
at a different time.
Scripting Languages
Client-side scripting – These are programs that are performed on
client’s side. These scripts have instructions for the browser according
to be carried out according to the user’s input. It is visible among the
clients or users.
Server-side scripting- It works as a link for the user as well as
modifies the user’s access to the resources on the web server. What it
does is accumulate the user’s actions so that it can create a specific
response.

A web application is a computer platform that uses web browser to do
tasks over the Internet.
How does a web application work?
Web applications are usually coded in computer languages that is supported
by a browser (JavaScript and HTML) as these languages depend on the
browser to make sure that the program can be executed. Some of the
applications are dynamic, which means it needs server-side processing.
Web application flow:
A user sends a request to the webserver, with the use of a browser or
an application, over the Internet.
The web server redirects this request to a specific web application
server which has the resource for the request.
The web application server executes the requested task – for instance
processing the data – then creates the outcomes of the requested
data.
The web application server sends results to the webserver woth the
processed data.
The web server answers to the client with the requested data that then
come out of the user’s display.
TCIP/IP
TCIP/IP specifies how devices exchange data over the internet to one
another. They identify how the data should be broken down, addressed,
transmitted, routed and received for sharing. It consists of two protocols:
TCP or Transmission Control Protocol is a protocol that relies on
an internet connection and tenders end-to-end packet delivery. It deals
with the breaking down of data into packets to be transferred over the
internet and restored over the destination.
IP or Internet Protocol defines how to address and route each
packet to make sure that they arrive in the right direction.

Web Services
Web services are open standard-based web applications that work
together with other web applications to exchange information. Web services
can change your existing applications into web applications.
Web Server
Every Website on a computer is referred to as web server. The server
is frequently connected to the web. Every server is linked to the web given a
single IP address derived from a series of 4 numbers between 0 and 256
separated by periods. For instance, 50.123.157.132 or 192.122.35.254.
Web Browser
A web browser is an application software that lets us view and search
information such as text, audio, video, etc. Any web page can be gained
access to by just typing on the URL address bar. The web browser is
responsible for interpreting the text and commands on the web page.
What is a WAMP Server?
WAMP – Windows Apache MySQL and PHP.
WAMP- is a localhost server for “Windows Operating Systems that is used to
manage, create, test, and develop websites without having to use a server.
WAMP can be compared to two other close variants:
LAMP – (Linux, Apache, MySQL, and PHP) for Linux Systems
MAMP – (Mac, Apache, MySQL, and PHP) for Mac OS operating systems
