familiar with those terms, then you can be said as Gamers or even truly gamers.
Ok, ladies and gentlemen,
Based on Entertainment Software Association, online games are not only for kids, but also adults in average 35 y.o.
Whether on mobile, PC, or a console, playing online games allows for enjoyment and gives a temporary escape from
everyday life.
So, do you know what I want to talk about here…..
Let me tell you. Due to the terms that I have said before, you should know what is it. Yes, it’s all about the effect of
online game.
So, what is online game? An online game is a video game that is played over a computer network, usually the
internet. Online games can be played on a variety of devices, such as game consoles, PCs, laptops, and mobile
phones.
According to Pokkt, Decision Lab and the Mobile Marketing Association (MMA), the number of gamers in Indonesia
has reached 60 million. Indonesia is listed as the country with the third largest online gaming market in the world.
Based on AI data research, the number of online game downloads in Indonesia was recorded at 3.45 billion. This
figure also illustrates that one child has more than one online game. This proves that many children in Indonesia have
fallen into the category of online game addiction.
This is reinforced by data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) 2023 which records that children aged 0-18 years
dominate the online game market with a percentage of 46.2%. The Ministry of Communication and Information
(Kominfo) sees that online game addiction can cause problems for children, ranging from academic, physical to
mental health.
How COME? The fact is School age children can play online games at any time. The most common times are after
school, weekends and school holidays. When children have a lot of free time. Online games can also be accessed
anywhere, such as at home, school, at a friend's house, or a public place that provides internet access.
Ladies and gentlemen. Behind the bad side, online games are actually one of the job opportunities in the current
digital era. Not only players, the people behind the scenes of the game also benefit from the existence of this online
game. According to Kornet, a professional online game player said that the other side of the existence of online
games in the current digital era can open up employment opportunities. "On the other hand, online games also open
up employment opportunities, not only for players who can become pro players, the people behind them such as
editors and support teams can also get jobs from online games.
Also, there are few positive effects of online game:
1st. it’s a place for kids to learn and get creative. Gaming, in many ways, is becoming a learning tool, with research in
the UK finding evidence that video games can improve kids’ literacy skills, creativity, and empathy. Although this view
has softened in recent years, with the popularity of creation games like Minecraft and Roblox soaring, we should still
be aware of the potential for excessive gaming to have an adverse effect on kids’ wellbeing, and especially their
physical activity.
2nd . Gaming has good social benefits. Many kids, unable to see their friends in person or go to school, felt a real
sense of social deprivation. Gaming helped fill this gap. Just over half of kid gamers also say they play with friends
online, with many others also playing with siblings or parents. In short, gaming isn’t just a way to connect with friends, it
also has the potential to bring families together.
3rd. The social benefits of gaming also pay dividends for mental health. Kids share worries and anxieties, much like adults do.
Research has found that video games have therapeutic benefits for military veterans, and it’s easy to see why.
Ladies and gentlemen
Video games can be a double-edged sword. Why ? because The effects vary, from addiction to exposure to violent content.
This online gaming phenomenon creates a dilemma for parents and school teachers. Online games provide an exciting virtual
world, often used as a means of escape from the stress of academic pressure or family problems. For some children, this is also a
place to interact with their friends.
However, without adequate limits and supervision, excessive use can cause significant negative effects on their health and
development. As a result, these fishermen's children have no motivation to learn, interact less with their peers, and rarely help
their parents.
There are several steps you can take. First, set a time limit for playing the game. For example, after doing homework, children
can play games for a while. Second, invite children to do activities outside. Go for a walk to the park, visit a museum or library,
and exercise together. Third, provide an understanding of the consequences and negative impacts of the habit of playing online
games.
But that is not only the role of parents, but also the role of the school. For example, by activating extracurricular activities to
divert students' focus in their free time. Apart from that, teachers also teach digital literacy to their students in class.
Well, “Sometimes life is like a video game. When things get harder, and the obstacles get tougher, it just means you leveled
up.”— Lilah Pace
Life is a game, life is more fun if you play games (roald dahl), cause gaming brings people together (lisa su)
