1.General Information
1.1 Special Instructions before upgrade
To achieve a successful upgrade of the firmware, please read the following instructions before starting the
upgrade procedure.
• This document describes the process for upgrading the firmware in of specific models to V1.6.02.002
• Verify that the USB driver software has been installed on the PC or laptop.
• Verify that the radio to be upgraded has V1.5.04.006 or V1.5.04.007 firmware installed by reading
the radio with the CPS and checking the Firmware Version shown in the Radio Information screen.
Do not upgrade the radio if the firmware version is A1.6
1.2 Upgrading multiple devices
The Upgrade kit will allow you to upgrade a maximum of six devices simultaneously. Each device requires a
connection to the PC using the correct programming cable for the device to be upgraded.
The upgrade kit will show a different USB port for each connected device.

1.3 Upgrade Modes
The Firmware upgrade kit supports two modes of operation, Manual and Auto. Manual Mode is selected by
default when the upgrade kit is started.
To change the operating mode, click Auto Mode and the following pop-up screen will be displayed.
Click OK to confirm and the Upgrade Tool will now be in Auto Mode.

2. Upgrading Using Manual Mode
Double click on the Upgrade kit icon on the desktop to open the software application.
The following screen will be displayed:
Ensure that the radio is turned OFF.
Connect the radio to the PC using the correct programming cable.
For the HP605, HP685, HP705 and HP785 use the PC152 cable.
For the HM785 use the PC47 cable
Turn the radio ON, the radio will start and then enter upgrade mode automatically. This is indicated by 3 RED
flashes on the LED indicator on the radio then it will be solid RED.
Click the Upgrade button on the screen to start the upgrade procedure.
If multiple devices are connected, click the upgrade button for each connected device.

The Update State will show the progress of the upgrade
The first part of the upgrade is complete when the following message is displayed:

The radio will restart and return to upgrade mode.
Click the Upgrade button, the second stage of the upgrade process will start. The Upgrade State will display
the progress of the upgrade
When the upgrade has been completed, the following message will be displayed:
The radio will now restart and enter normal operating mode.

2. Upgrading Using Auto Mode
Double click on the Upgrade kit icon on the desktop to open the software application.
The following screen will be displayed:
Select Auto Mode as detailed in section 1.2 above.
Ensure that the radio is turned OFF.
Connect the radio to the PC using the correct programming cable.
For the HP605, HP685, HP705 and HP785 use the PC152 cable.
For the HM785 use the PC47 cable
