Unit 1

• What are the benefits of spending time in nature compared to being in a busy city?

• Why do some people enjoy living in a quiet area rather than in a busy urban environment?

Sample answers

What do you see in these pictures?

1. In the first picture, I can see a young woman sitting alone on the grass, perhaps studying or
reading something. The park is surrounded by tall green trees, which creates a relaxing and
peaceful atmosphere. In the background, there are a few other people, but they seem distant
and are likely just enjoying a quiet day outdoors. The second picture shows a busy city street
at night, full of brightly lit signs, heavy traffic, and people moving around. It feels much more
energetic and chaotic compared to the first picture, showing two very different environments.

2. The first picture shows a park with a person sitting quietly on the grass, probably taking a
break or reading. The atmosphere looks serene, with large trees and greenery all around.
There are also a few other people in the distance, but they don’t seem to be disturbing the
peaceful vibe of the park. In contrast, the second image shows a big, bustling city with a lot of
cars, bright lights, and tall buildings. The streets are full of activity, giving a sense of non-stop
movement and excitement.

3. In the first picture, we see a woman sitting calmly on the grass in a beautiful park. She’s
surrounded by nature, with large trees and a clear, open space. There are some people in the
background, but they are far away, maintaining the peacefulness of the scene. Meanwhile,
the second picture shows the complete opposite—a noisy, crowded city street at night, with
bright advertisements, cars, and people. It’s full of energy and activity, giving a sense of
constant motion, unlike the peaceful park.

What are the benefits of spending time in nature compared to being in a busy city?

1. Spending time in nature has many health benefits, both mentally and physically. For
example, it can reduce stress and help people feel more relaxed. When you’re surrounded by
trees, fresh air, and quiet spaces, you can disconnect from your busy schedule and recharge
your energy. On the other hand, being in a busy city can often feel overwhelming because of
the noise, crowds, and constant movement. Cities may offer excitement, but they rarely
provide the same sense of calmness that nature does.

2. One major advantage of spending time in nature is the opportunity to enjoy peace and
quiet, something that’s often missing in busy urban areas. Nature gives you a chance to slow
down, breathe fresh air, and clear your mind, which can improve your mood and reduce
anxiety. Cities, while full of opportunities and conveniences, can be stressful due to noise
pollution, traffic, and fast-paced living. Being in nature helps you escape all that and focus on
your well-being.

3. Spending time in nature is beneficial because it allows people to take a break from their
fast-paced city lives. In natural surroundings, you can relax, meditate, or even engage in
physical activities like walking or cycling, all of which help reduce stress. A busy city, on the
other hand, can increase your stress levels with its constant noise and crowded streets. While
cities offer modern conveniences, nature offers a much-needed balance for mental and
physical health.

Why do some people enjoy living in a quiet area rather than in a busy urban environment?

1. Many people prefer living in quiet areas because they offer a slower pace of life and more
peace. In a quiet environment, people can enjoy their privacy and have time to relax without
the noise and distractions of a city. This can be especially important for those who work in
high-stress jobs and need a peaceful place to unwind. In contrast, urban environments are
often crowded, noisy, and fast-paced, which can be stressful for some people.

2. Quiet areas attract people who value a calm and peaceful lifestyle. In these places, there’s
usually less noise, less traffic, and more green spaces, making it easier to relax and enjoy
outdoor activities. Some people find cities too stressful because of the constant noise,
pollution, and lack of personal space. Living in a quiet area allows them to have a better
quality of life, with less stress and more time to enjoy nature and family.

3. People often choose to live in quiet areas because they prefer the tranquility that comes
with it. In a quiet environment, there’s less pollution and more space, making it perfect for
raising a family or enjoying outdoor activities. City life, while convenient for work and social
activities, can be overwhelming due to the constant noise, traffic, and busy schedules. For
some, the peace and calm of a rural or suburban area provide a much better living
experience.
