INTRODUCTION
In this guide, you will learn how to nd and collect contact
information for speci c professionals such as CEOs,
marketers, and hiring agents using advanced Google search
strings. By leveraging the power of Google search operators
and Chrome’s Data Scraper extension, you can e ciently
extract relevant data and compile it into a Google Sheets
document for easy access and management.

Why Use Advanced Search Strings?

What is Data Scraper?


Data Scraper is a Chrome extension that simpli es the
process of extracting data from web pages. By using this tool,
you can automate the data collection process, saving time

PART 1
SETTING UP YOUR GOOGLE SHEETS
Purpose of google sheets

Google Sheets plays a crucial role in how you gather and


organize your leads and prospects. This tool will serve as the
foundation for your lead gathering process, storing all the
essential information you collect. The data stored here will be
used as the primary source for your automation in Zapier.

Navigate to Google Sheets:
• Open your web browser and go to Google Sheets. If you’re
not already logged in, sign in using your Google account.

Create a New Spreadsheet:


• Once you’re on the Google Sheets homepage, click on the
blank template to create a new spreadsheet.

Naming your sheet:


Click on the untitled spreadsheet at the top left corner of the
page and enter a relevant name for your sheet. I named mine
“Prospects,” but “Lead Collection” is also a good choice.

Setting up Columns:
In the rst row of your new sheet, enter the following column
headers:

These columns will help you organize the leads you collect
using Data Scraper. Adjust your column widths by double-
clicking on the column to automatically resize it, or you can
drag the edge to set the width manually.

Note: This Google Sheet will act as a central repository for all
your lead data, which will be essential for your automation
work ows later.

HOW TO USE ADVANCED SEARCH
STRINGS
Purpose of search strings

Advanced search strings are powerful tools that allow you to


lter out irrelevant information and zero in on the precise data
you need. By using speci c keywords and search operators,
you can create highly targeted searches that bring back only
the most relevant results.

Basic structure search strings

Advanced search strings use speci c operators and


keywords to create highly targeted searches. Here’s a
breakdown of how these strings are structured and some
examples to illustrate their use.

↑ This search string nds LinkedIn pro les of CEOs with


Gmail addresses.

So taking this basic structure, you can replace the linkedIn


site with any site. Same goes for the title and gmail. Here is
another example of a basic structure search string:

Combining keywords and modi ers

DATA SCRAPER CHROME EXTENSION
Purpose of Data Scraper

Data Scraper is a powerful Chrome extension that automates


the extraction of data from the web pages you searched in
Part 1, making your data collection process faster and more
e cient. By integrating this data into Google Sheets, you can
easily use your Zapier automation to contact these leads with
your custom GPT for more e ective outreach and follow-up.

STEP 1:
Downloading the Data Scraper Extension

• Open Google Chrome.


• Go to the Data Scraper extension page on the Chrome
Web Store.
• Click on the “Add to Chrome” button.
• Con rm by clicking “Add Extension” in the pop-up window.
• Once the extension is added, you will see the Data Scraper
icon in the Chrome toolbar.

STEP 2:
Enabling the Google Sheets feature in Data Scraper

• Navigate to your account in Data Scraper.


• On the left side, you will see “Google Sheets.” Click on it.
• Scroll down if necessary to nd the toggle switch. Enable
the feature by clicking on the toggle to turn it on. The next
step will have you validate your account by allowing Data
Miner to have access to your google sheets.

STEP 3:
Adding a Sheet

• Navigate to the Google Sheet you created in Part 1 and


copy the URL.
• Return to Data Miner and click the “+ Add Sheets” button
at the bottom right..

• Name your sheet. I recommend using the same name as
your Google Sheet for consistency. In my case, I named it
“Prospects.”
• Paste the copied Google Sheets URL into the provided
eld to replace the one already exists.
• Click “Save”.

STEP 4:
Google Search before you can scrape

• Navigate to google.com
• Enter your rst search string in the search bar. (Ex.
site:linkedin.com "CEO" “gmail.com”)
• Press enter to view your search results.

STEP 5:
Performing your scrape

• Open your Google Chrome extensions by clicking on the


puzzle piece icon in the top right corner of your browser
window.

• From your list of extensions, select “Data Scraper.”

• Next, you will see a blue button “Scrape This Page”, click
on that.

• Once you’ve pasted the URL link into the eld, click on the
blue button that says “Check it”. This will make sure the
URL you pasted into the eld is good.

• Go ahead and hit “Next Step” to proceed to the next tab


titled “Recipe”.

• From this list, search for “Google XRay - LinkedIn 2022”


and select it.

Note: This is a public recipe you can use. Once you become
comfortable with using the Data Miner tool, you can build
your own recipes for other search types. It’s relatively easy to

• Let’s move onto the next step by clicking on the blue “Next
Step” for “Crawl Scrape.

Crawl name: Rename this to something familiar. I chose


“Prospects Crawl List”.

Limit range: You can leave this to default and make changes
here later.

Wait time: You can leave this set to the default settings.

Stop crawl when: Leave these unchecked

Follow pagination: You can leave this to 1 pages and make
changes later.

Google Sheets: Locate your google sheet from the dropdown


list and select it here. In my case, I chose “Prospects”.

Once you are nished making all the changes, hit the blue
botton at the top “Start Crawl”. This step will take a few
moments to complete.

Once the crawl is complete, you will see 100%. Go ahead and
hit the blue “Next step” button or click on the last tab “5.
Download”.

You will see all your scraped data listed here. You can choose
to download this list, but since it is connected to your Google
Sheets, it is already populated in your document. Navigate to
your Google Sheets to see your scraped data.

Public recipes are a great starting point and can all be edited
to your preference. Personally, I keep it simple by using

public recipes and making edits to suit my needs. Now that
you see how the crawl works, you can use these recipes and,
once comfortable, build your own for the speci c data you
