Exercise 13:
Read this letter from Glenrothes, a New Town in the east of Scotland
Dear Gill,
You know that I never wanted to move up here. It was Peter who kept on saying, “Let’s try it”. But now we’ve
been here for six months and I like it better every day. Why don’t you and John join us here? I’m sure you’d be
just as happy as we are. What about visiting us here for a couple of weeks in May? You could stay with us, and
John could go along with Peter and see if he’d like the work. People who are interested in a job can even work
here for a month or two and then decide whether they want to stay or not. Please tell John about it and let us
know what he says. The first months here weren’t too difficult. With the help of the company Peter works for
we managed to find a suitable house quite easily. As almost everybody’s new here, it’s quite easy to make friends.
My next-door neighbour, Betty Smith, is an enthusiastic member of a few clubs, and I sometimes go along with
her. Social life is very lively here. Almost every day we either have guests or we go and see friends for a drink
and a chat, sometimes for a meal, but we don’t usually cook large dinners. But do come and see for yourself.
Love,
Jean
Now complete the sentences below with a verb + object + infinitive structure. Follow the order of the
