Installation and commissioning

 If you intend to print via a network, then provide an RJ-45

network interface. Configure the network for a data
transmission rate of at least 100 Mbit.

NOTE!
If a printer is ordered from the manufacturer as
an accessory component, then PC and printer
will be preconfigured so that after connecting the
printer to the PC the system will be ready for
operation. The printer can be connected locally
or via a network.

 If delivered without a scanner stand/cabinet, provide a

load-bearing substructure that is designed to bear the
weight of the device, and that has an even placement
surface that meets the specifications provided in this
manual relative to required placement surface (see
section "Technical data").

 Especially the OSQ2 needs heavy-duty table. The

bearing load has to be more then 250 kg.

 If necessary ensure that the installation site is air con-

ditioned so that the required operating conditions (see
section "Technical data") are assured.

DANGER!
Life-threatening danger due to electric shock!
The system is operated with electrical current.
This means there is always a danger of an
electric shock.
Therefore:
– Ensure that the cables of the system and
peripheral devices are not kinked or
jammed when installing, and that the
insulation of these cables is not damaged.
– Never open the base housing, the housing
of the head, or the housing of the screen
without authorization.

WARNING!
Danger of injury due to falling components!

Some of the components are very heavy and can

cause severe injuries if they fall.
Therefore:
– When installing the scan unit always ensure
that three persons lift the components.
– Keep a firm hold on unmounted
components of the scan unit until they are
mounted.

6.4.2 Installation OSQ1 / OSQ0

1. Install the scan system near the place of

work. Make enough space for install-
lation. The frame will be assembled
lying on its back and has to be raised up
afterwards. To avoid scratches it is
useful to lay down some clothes.

2. Place both side parts with the back on

the ground. Underlay the contact
surface to the ground with a log to avoid
damage. The distance between the side
parts is the length of the lower traverse.

6.4.4 Connect scanner to PC:

After successful installation, the scanning unit must be connected to the PC.
After the wiring of the PC a change of location is complicated by the
connected cables. Therefore, set up the PC before connecting to its final
location.

CAUTION!

Malfunctions and disturbances due to improper

connection of the system!
Faulty connection between the scanning unit may
disturb the operation of the system and damage
the system.
Therefore:
– Only have the connection made by the
manufacturer’s employees or the system and
network administrators of the operator.
– Place the PC inaccessible in a lockable
substructure to prevent subsequent, improper
changes to the connection.

NOTE!
PC pre-assembled by Zeutschel.
In this case, all connections between PC and scanner
is manufactured with the aid of the numbering on
the plugs and sockets

6.4.5 Connecting peripherals to the power supply:

The power is supplied to the system components via an IEC cable
and cold appliance extensions. The monitor and PC are supplied with
power from the rear of the base via a cold appliance extension. Only
the scanning unit itself is connected to the power supply via an IEC
cable with mains plug.

CAUTION!
Material damage due to improper
connection to the power supply!
Improper connection to the power supply may
damage the system.
Therefore:
– Power connection must only be carried out
by the manufacturer's employees or by
experienced system or network
administrator operator´s.

Installation and commissioning

CAUTION!
Material damage due to incorrect power
supply of the PC!
Incorrect voltage of the power supply unit of the
PC conducts to damage of the hardware.
Therefore:
– Use the slide control on the power supply
unit to adjust it to the local mains voltage.

To connect the scanning unit to the power

supply:

1. Plug the power cord into the side part

of the OS18000.
2. Connect the power cable into the
socket with earthing contact.
3. Connect the USB Cable to the side part

Operation

7 Operation
The system uses high efficient LEDs.
The light path is focused and contains light gates shades.
Therefore it is technically not possible to stare directly into
the LEDs lamps when operating the scanner normally.

Warning!
LED lightning contains blue light.
Do not stare into the lamp for longer time.

Avertissement!
Éclairage LED contient de la lumière bleue.
Ne regarder pas á la lampe pour longtemps.

Laser beam
The device operates using laser protection
class 2 laser beam. Therefore never gaze
directly into the laser soure.

DANGER!
Danger of hand pinching while book plates
are moving!
Never grap with the hand into the moving
book plates.

Warning!
Before connecting or disconnecting the cables
from the book cradle or the backlight table
switch off the main power!

HINT!
Following hints recommend that there is an
Omniscan 12.12 or higher installed and

7.2 Scanning with the OS Qx scanner

7.2.1 Scanning with glass plate

During scanning the document is pressed onto the

glass plate via the book cradle.

The pressure of the book plates can be adjusted

using the pressure pre selector on the control
panel. The setting force depends on the type and
weight of the documents and compensates the
weight of the documents. For example: A heavy
document requires a higher setting value.

To move the glass plate it must be

activated first. Press the ON/OFF button
at the control panel.

1. Open the book cradle by using the close glass plate

open key. If the glass plate is switched off, activate
it with the glass plate On/Off switch at the control
panel

2. Adjust the width of the gap between the bookplates

by moving them sideways in a distance equal to the
thickness of the book. The book plates can be
moved as soon as the locking is pulled to the front.

Provided that in the Omniscan the function

„start scan on glass“ is activated, after
reaching the contact pressure a scan will
be automatically triggered.
When the automatic function is activated,
the glass plate will be opened
automatically after the scan has ended to
turn over the page.
The combined use of these both functions
grants a high working speed.
Only turning over pages and closing the
glass plate have to be done manual by the
operator.
