Linear Eqn in Two Variables

Chapter 4 focuses on linear equations in two variables, providing various problems and questions for students to solve. It includes tasks such as finding distances between graphs, determining solutions for equations, and drawing graphs. Additionally, there is a case study involving a family's house purchase that requires applying linear equations to real-world scenarios.

A) 2 B) 4 C) 3 D) 1

2 To draw graph of 4𝑥 + 5𝑦 = 19, Find 𝑦 when 𝑥 = 1

A)3 B) 2 C)4 D) -3
3
If (4,2) lies on the graph of the equation 5𝑥 + 𝑎𝑦 = 28 then a= ?
A)8 B)4 C)20 D)2

4 Which equation represents the line that passes through the point (-1, 4) and is parallel to the y-axis?

A) 𝑦 = −1 B)𝑥 = −1 C) 𝑥 = 4 D) 𝑦 = 4

5 The solution of the equation 𝑥 – 2𝑦 = 4 is:

A) (0, 2) B) (4, 0) C) (1, 1) D) (2,0)

6 Assertion: The point (2, 1) satisfy the linear equation 3x + 4y = 10.

Reason: Any point satisfy the linear equation means when we put the coordinate values in the given equation,
then LHS = RHS

a) Both Assertion and Reason are correct and Reason is the correct explanation for Assertion
b) Both Assertion and Reason are correct and Reason is not the correct explanation for Assertion.
c) Assertion is true but the reason is false.
d) Both assertion and reason are false.
7 Write each of the following equations in the form ax + by + c = 0 and indicate the values of a, b and c
in each case:
(𝑖)2𝑥 + 3𝑦 = 4 (𝑖𝑖)𝑥 – 4 = 3 𝑦 (𝑖𝑖𝑖) 4 = 5𝑥 – 3𝑦 (𝑖𝑣) 2𝑥 = 𝑦

8 Find two solutions for each of the following equations:

(i) 4𝑥 + 3𝑦 = 12 (ii) 2𝑥 + 5𝑦 = 0 (iii) 3𝑦 + 4 = 0

9 At what point the graph of the linear equation 2x – 3y = – 15 cuts the x-axis?

10 At what point the graph of the linear equation 2x + 5y = 10 cuts the y-axis?

same line?
ii) Find the coordinate of the point lies on above line (a) abscissa is zero (b) ordinate is zero
iii) The points A(a, b) and B(b, 0) lie on the linear equation y = 8x + 3. Find the value
of a and b.
13. Draw the graph of the linear equation x + 2y = 8 and find the point on the graph where abscissa is
twice the value of ordinate.

14 Solve the equation 2x + 1 = x – 3, and represent the solution(s) on (i) the number line, (ii) the
Cartesian plane.

Case Study Based Question

15 Gupta's family wanted to purchase a house near national highway 54. One day, they went to the property
dealer and saw the different maps of houses there. One of the maps were shown below.

On the basis of the above information, solve the following questions:

i) Find the area of one kitchen and one bedroom.
ii) Write the linear equation in two variables formed by the given layout.
iii) Write any three solutions for the equation 2x + 3y = 24
