You are on page 1/ 13

Should have the correct title, student details, and the Diploma programme with a statement on

what the project should fulfill

Ref to sample in Appendix A

The page contains the student’s declaration of the originality of the Project Report.
This declaration page by the student.
The declaration page is to follow the format and content as shown in Appendix B

Students may include an optional dedication for the Project Report. The dedication must be
brief, not more than one paragraph and must not contain any number, chart or photograph.
Refer to sample in Appendix C

Here you have the opportunity to thank the various people who have helped in the development
of the project. It might include specific individuals who have given information, offered insights,
or generally been supportive. Gratitude may be expressed to groups of people, like those who
were studied, or fellow students.
Refer to sample in Appendix D

This is a summary of the project report. It should give an overall picture of the research in
terms
of the problem being addressed, the objective of the project, existing work, methodology and
results
Should be a minimum of 250 words and a maximum of 350 words

Table of content identifies the contents and organization of document. It is made up of

. Section headings
. Page numbers

Th e t ab le o f c o nt ent u s i ng t he res pect iv e wo rd pro c es s o r.

Section consists of list of the table used in the report, indicating table no, its title and page no
found.

Section consists of list of the figures or Illustrations such as diagrams, photographs, drawings,
graphs, charts, maps etc used in the report indicating figure no, its title and page no found.

Chapter one should be between a Minimum of 4 pages and Maximum of 5 pages and consist of
the following sections

Introduce the topic and the scope of chapter one (Background, Problem statement … ..)
: Introduces the project area; What is the motivation for the project,
How it operates and how the problem exists (Provide a referenced prove of the problem). (Njog
u,
Winda, & Mohamed, 2024) Give a brief explanation of current operations (Devices) in existence
and how operations are currently conducted (M bug ua I. M., 2024). (Global perspective, Regional
and finally locally) (Muri ra & Kat iwa, 2022) (Mbug ua I. M., 2024). (Jodo, 2024) (Ki rui & Kat iwa,
2022)

This is a statement of the problem the project is intended to address. It should clearly show the
problem in the light of the project research and its contribution to the solution. (Irungu & Mar uti,
2024)
Ideally it should originate from the way the way operations are currently conducted.
Each problem should be stated clearly with a brief explanation on how it arises from the
functions be undertaken. (pete, 2021), (Refer to ANNEXXU RE II) (Jodo, 2024)

Main objective should be a single statement stating what problem is being addressed and what
the project aims to achieve.

Clear, concise “SMART” objectives should be provided including project/ research and system
development related objectives.
(S - Specific, M - Measurable, A - Achievable, R- Realistic/Relevant, T- Time bound/boxed.

(The supervisor should guide the student on the minimum and maximum number of objectives
as per his/her project).
Key words like Investigate, develop, design, and analyze should be used to list objectives.
The specific objectives should follow a sequence. They should flow in the order of
implementation.
Example;
The Objective of this project is: -
1. To Establish/determine the extend of use of wearable devices in Kenya.
2. To Design the … … ..
3. To Implement/ develop/ construct … …
4. To Evaluate/analyze/test the efficiency of … … .

Based on the stated specific objectives.

. How do I determine the extend of wearable devices use in Kenya
. How do I design … … … .
. What do I need to implement … … .
. How do I carry out the test of the system developed

;- student should justify their project by indicating the

interesting ness and challenge that the project presents, the timeliness of the idea, the possible
advantages that realization of such a project would bring.

1. Elaborate/give detailed account of the problem(s) you a re solving: explain the problem,
you can also cite examples, or cite authors who have talked about the same problem as a
prove that the problem exists. ( Citation from existing literature) ( Mbug ua & Ogechi, 2 0 2 2 )

– this is intext citation. (Attach appendices) (See appendix 2) (Ki rui & Kat iwa, 2022)
2 . Demonstrate how your research project is going to bring a solution. ( Mut uri, 2 0 2 3 )
3. Show the significance of the project to the society/community.
- Provide the structure of the project using block diagram or flow
chart and give a brief description of each step. (pete, 2021)

2.1 Introduction – tell us what you want to discuss or cover in our chapter 2

2.2 What technologies will you need to implement your project; why the
choice of such technologies; merits and demerits of each. (IBM, 2023), (Oigara & Shivonje, 2024)
2.2.1… .. Laser Technology
2.2.2 … … Data acquisition technologies
2.2.3 ---- Data analysis technologies
Weighing technologies, Communication technologies (Bluetooth, zig bee, gsm etc),
Microcontroller technologies, Data analysis and interpretation technologies, Data acquisition
technologies (Mut uri, 2023)

23
.
2.3.1 … . Metre rule (Operation principle, strengths, weaknesses) (Oigara & Shivonje, 2024)
2.3.2 … . Tape measure (Operation principle, strengths, weaknesses)
Operations, strengths and weaknesses of similar existing projects
Discuss at least three related project. (Odada, 2023)
Have a Summary table of the technologies at the end

1 Auto-Poultry Feed Low power Low lifespan

consumption High cost

2 xxxxx xxxx yyyy

3
4
5 My project Low cost

Bring out the unique aspect that your project has compare to the ones currently in the
market.

It should have a minimum 4 pages and maximum 6 pages. (Odada, 2023)

The student should examine and comment critically on related work done by others. The
student should point out what makes his work stand out compared to the existing technologies
(refences should be cited)

In this section the student should provide a detailed description of the system design. analyze
the system parts in details by providing circuits for different parts of the block diagram, describe
their design and functions. Mathematical proves should also be shown in this section (Current,
voltages, power input and outputs, frequency response, time response etc)
Provide the final and complete circuit for the system designed (Those working on hardware).
Give a description of the system operation.

Discuss the tools used for the testing of components (Tools used for coding and testing and the
data used to test, and the testing approach in case of software)
The results and explanation for the test should be given at this level. Discuss why the results are
the way they appear.
For those undertaking software based projects A sample of the system code should be included
in the appendices section.
This is a minimum of 1 page and Maximum of 2 pages
The chapter has the following functions:
: In this section you need to state some of the problems you encountered in the
rocess of do in our research/ roject e time factor finances anti- coo erat ive res onses
p gy p .g. , , p
: ties the results of the study to theory, practice and policy by pulling together the
theoretical background, literature review, potential significance for application and results of the
study.
: the section highlights suggestions and recommendations for further
improvements in the system.

This is a minimum of 1 page and Maximum of 2 pages.

References are the detailed description of resources from which information or ideas were
obtained in preparing the Project Report. The details of every references cited in the text,
published or unpublished, must be listed alphabetically in this page.
The APA referencing style should be used.

Making proper text citations and providing accurate referencing for quotations are crucial
to
help ensure that students do not intentionally, or otherwise, plagiarize the work of others.
Plagiarism occurs when people steal the words, the ideas, and/or the work that rightfully
belong
to others and then present these words, ideas, and/or work as if this material were their
own
words, ideas, or works.
Students are advised to pay serious attention to this matter, as it is a very serious
offence to
plagiarize the work of others. The best way to avoid plagiarism is to make proper
documentation of the sources to which referred to in the project paper. Students are
strongly
cautioned that if there is evidence that a part or parts of a project paper has/have been
plagiarized, the departmental examination board reserves the right to fail the student concerned
and to report the student to the Disciplinary Committee of the University.
I hereby declare that this project report is based on my original work except for citations and
quotations which have been duly acknowledged. I also declare that it has not been previously
and concurrently submitted for any other diploma/Degree or award at Mount Kenya University.
