CHESS TOURNAMENT
Ground Rules
Players
1. The players should be a BONAFIDE students of PNCHS.
2. The Team should consist of 4 players for Boys and 4 players for Girls; identified Board1, Board2, Board3,
Board4.
3. NO substitution of player shall be done after playing the Round1 of Blitz Game.
System of play (Blitz and Rapid)
1. Single Round Robin is the system of play.
2. Team Play Point System
2.1. The TEAM is awarded 1 point for the winner, ½ for a draw and 0 for a loss.
2.2. The player is awarded 1 point for the winner, ½ for a draw and 0 for a loss.
3. In case of tie, the following tiebreak system is applied:
a. Winner over the other (WOTO)
b. Sonneborn-Berger (SB)
c. Sudden Death Match
4. For the Award:
4.1. The TEAM with highest point will be declared 1st place or Champion, so forth.
4.2. The player in each Board Category with highest point will be declared MVP.
During the game
1. Touch move rule is applied
2. In case of illegal move/irregularities the following penalty is applied:
BLITZ: First offense – First warning RAPID: First offense – First warning
Second offense – Forfeiture of the game Second offense –Second warning
Third offense – Forfeiture of the game
3. Time Control – used of chess clock is mandatory. (Digital/Analog/Android Phones)
3.1. BLITZ:
* The players are given 5 minutes + 2 seconds playing time
3.2. RAPID:
* For Round 1: players are given 23 minutes playing time
* For Round 2-5: players are given 30 minutes playing time
4. The players shall strictly observe the Game Play Schedule; the players are given 5minutes defaulting
time for Blitz while 10 minutes defaulting time for the Rapid game.
5. For the completion of the move: a move is said to be completed if the player releases his/her hand on a
chess piece and the player is mandatory to tap his/her clock.
6. Used of cellphones or any gadgets will automatically result to forfeiture of the game.
7. For unnecessary activity which may result to disturb opponent’s concentration during the game:

Second offense – Forfeiture of the game Second offense – Second warning
Third offense – Forfeiture of the game
Other Rules and guidelines shall be governed by the FIDE Laws of Chess.
