--- FATAL ERROR at startup ---
0. First, make sure you have proper administrator privileges to run the game.
Also make sure you can run DX12. Otherwise, go to the "I can't run DX12 or
DX11!" title.
1. Add a circumvention to your firewall/antivirus and restart the game.
2. If it still crashes, make sure that your antivirus did not REMOVE any essential
files. Sometimes
the exe or some .dll files are quarantined. Check the Quarantine/Virus vault or
re-download
the game, and launch it again while the antivirus is disabled or the
circumvention is active.
3. Update your DRIVERS. Many crashes have so far been fixed with a simple Video
card driver update,
especially AMD cards. You might have to force an optiona/experimental download
to see the latest driver.
4. Still crashing? Go to https://trello.com/c/I6FQo76V/61-download-links and try
the Compatibility check.
If that crashes, your computer has an issue with running the engine itself.
5. If you are still crashing, you can go to the Discord and ask for help in
#troubleshooting, but please
be aware that if you crash on startup, the issue likely has to do with your
computer, not the game, and
we might not be able to help you. Go into the /ManicMiners/Saved/Crash folder
and get the .dump file
as well as the .log file. The dump file will tell you exactly what type of error
caused the crash when
loaded into Microsoft Visual Studio.
--- I can't run DX12 or DX11! ---
Well, you are in luck, but you are one of few. Unreal Engine can also run on DX10,
Vulkan and OpenGL (1/3/4). You
will have to use a separate download, go back to the download page and choose
"Legacy". This will increase the size
of the game because it contains shaders for all these compatibility settings!
Once you have this build, there should be a folder called "AlternateVersions". Try
which one works best for you.
Regular versions also have a single "AlternateVersions" folder but that's only to
run the game with DX11 instead.
--- The menus of the game appears to not be centered?---
You are probably using Windows interface scaling, which is weird on DX12. Right-
click the shortcut, select "Properties",
-> Compatibility -> Change high DPI settings -> Check the box saying "Override high
DPI scaling behaviour" and set it to
be determined by Application. Done!
--- Settings are stuck in a way so I can't run the game! ---
Delete "ManicMinersSettings.sav" in C:\Users\{YOUR_USERNAME}\AppData\Local\
ManicMiners\Saved\SaveGames
OR
Click the big red button in the Settings Menu and do a full reset. Your progress
will NOT be affected.
--- My controls are frozen! ---
Please report this as a bug and include what menu you were clicking or navigating
when it happened. Try pausing
and unpausing the game (with P) to see if that makes you able to move. There is
also a Pause button in the UI, in
the message panel at the bottom.
--- I can't play any community levels?? Or use custom textures?? ---
Firstly: Make sure you have turned off "Sandboxing" for the game in the Itch.io
client. It's a safety feature that
blocks loading of any external files: https://itch.io/docs/itch/using/sandbox.html
If this is not your issue:
- Make sure levels are placed in the community levels folder (click the Folder icon
on the Community Levels screen)
- Make sure the game has permissions to access the file system. Try running the
program as Administrator,
or adjust Properties->Security.
- Make sure the textures are valid file types: bmp, jpg, png, tga, can't remember
all of them lol, just convert to png?
--- My game froze/crashed!! ---
Firstly: Did it crash because it was "Out of Video Memory"? Then that is because
it, quite simply, ran out of
video memory, aka. VRAM. This means you should probably turn down your graphics
settings in the Settings menu,
and keep them a bit lower going forward.
If it crashed with no popups or messages at all: I'm sorry this happened! I take
freezes and crashes very seriously.
Please report it as a bug in my Discord server and give me as much information as
you can: What units you had, what
level you were on, and a screenshot if possible! If it happens more than once,
something is really fishy.
--- I found a bug! ---
0. Before reporting, can you reproduce it or not? That is, make it happen again
with a specific list of actions.
Reporting something like "A crystal could not be picked up" is not very useful
if I don't know why it happened!
An image and a description of how to make it happen is usually essential for me
to fix it, but if you don't have
that, go ahead and report it. I can usually figure out the issue as I programmed
the entire game. At other times,

3. If the bug is not there at first glance, report it with as much info as possible
such as what relevant settings
you used, on what map it occured, what speed the game was
playing on and how to reproduce it.
