main purposes of

18
TARGET
AUDIENCE
When a company
makes an advert, it
is not made for
everyone.

TARGET AUDIENCE
This is because
companies know that
we are all different.

We all have hobbies and

interests that someone
else may not like.

19
TARGET AUDIENCE
Because of this,
companies need to be
careful when they create
an advert.

The goods, services, and

events they adverstise
must appeal to a target
audience.

TARGET AUDIENCE
In advertising, a target
audience is a group of
people most likely to
become a customer
and make a purchase.

20
TARGET
AUDIENCE
There are many things
companies look at when
choosing a target audience.

Let's learn about 5

examples.

AGE
Some goods and services
are designed to be enjoyed
by people that are a
particular age.

For example: a toy car or

stuffed animal is most likely
to be enjoyed by a child.

21
HOBBIES &
INTERSTS
Some companies specialise in
a specific good or service
that is most likely to be
enjoyed by someone with a
special interest.

For example: craft or

sporting good stores.

OCCUPATIONS
Some companies create
goods and services that
would most likely be
enjoyed by people who
have a certain job.

For example: fun scrubs

for doctors and nurses.

22
INCOMES
Some goods are made to be
enjoyed by someone who
has a particular budget.
There are companies who
create goods for people of
all kinds of budgets.

For example: luxury cars

LOCATIONS
Not every company or small
business can be found
around the world.

At the same time, people

may not be interested in
participating in a service or
event that is far away from
their home.

23
LOCATIONS
For example: People who
live very far away would not
be interested in attending a
small town's holiday
festival.

WHICH MEDIA DO I USE?

Advertisers use different media to reach the public;
for example television, the internet, magazines, and
newspapers. Different media reach different groups
of people.
