Introduction
The lesson focuses on the ideal personal traits and competencies of
professional animators, game developers and graphic designers.
Learning Objectives/Outcomes:
At the end of the lesson, you will be able to:
1. Identify one’s career opportunities in the field of animation technology
2. Analyze, assess and reflect on one’s entrepreneurial traits and competencies
of professional animator or as a business enterprise

Competencies of an Animation Technology Career Path
1. Computer Skills- Computer literacy is defined as the knowledge and ability to use computers and related
technology efficiently, with skill levels ranging from elementary use to computer programming and advanced
problem solving.
2. Excellent Communication Skills- Having good communication skills in the workplace is all about being
able to convey information to people clearly and simply, in a way that means things are understood and get
done. It's about transmitting and receiving messages clearly, and being able to read your audience
3. Drawing and Sculpting Skills- Drawing well requires learning to see to the shapes that make up an
object. In order to draw realistically, we must also learn to draw basic forms from these shapes. All objects
can be broken down into these basic forms.
4. Editing Skills- Editing involves carefully reviewing material before it is published and suggesting or
making changes to correct or improve it. The editor must communicate clearly and tactfully with all team
members, and clearly mark and convey changes, suggestions, and directions.
5. Story Telling Skills- Storytellers organise their stories well.
The characters are developed with thoughts, feelings and actions.
The setting is described by appealing to the five senses.
Dialogue is used to give voice to the characters and to move the story forward.
The events in the plot are well structured (rising action, climax, falling action).
The problems that the characters faced are resolved in the end.
They speak clearly and are easy to understand.
They vary the pace, pitch and volume of their voice and use pausing for dramatic effect.
They use different voices for their characters.
Storytellers use facial expression and body language.
They appear comfortable, relaxed and confident in front of their audience.
They use facial expressions that match the mood of the story.
They use gestures that complement the story.
Storytellers are creative and entertain their audience.
They engage the audience by making eye contact, asking questions, telling jokes, etc.
They use special actions or small props to make the story more entertaining.
They get a good response from the audience.

Animation is not just limited to film and television. In fact, animation is a key element other
fields such as video games. The movement of the characters and elements in Video games is
done through animation along with a specific programming language to add functionality to the
characters on how they can be manipulated by players. But other than movies and games, there
are also other fields and industries that uses animation technology. Among these fields are
medicine, engineering, architecture, mechanical, and education which uses animation as an
effective tool to present, teach, visualize, and simulate certain processes or procedures.
