i) Change of Scribe at the Examination Centre:

- Change of Scribe at the exam venue is generally not permitted. However, under exceptional circumstances the change may be
allowed duly recording reasons. The new scribe should have registered with the RRBs as a scribe, and a copy of the One -Time
Registration (OTR) printout must be submitted at the examination centre. Additionally, new scribe should meet all other
criteria applicable to scribe as brought out under para 11.7.9. The candidates shall fill up details in “change of Scribe" fo rm and
‘letter of undertaking for using scribe’ form.
- If these requirements are not met, the RRB may assign a scribe at its discretion, provided the candidate still wishes to avai l the
scribe facility. The qualification of the scribe provided by RRB will not be more than the minimum qualification of the CEN.
However, the qualification of the scribe would always be matriculate or above.
11.7.10. Candidates eligible to use the services of a scribe, as outlined in Paras 11.7.1, 11.7.2, and 11.7.3, may avail the facility of a scribe
and/or compensatory time, if they so desire.

a) A compensatory time of 20 minutes per hour of examination will be provided to candidates permitted to use a scribe, as
specified in the above-mentioned paragraphs.
b) Candidates referred to in Paras 11.7.1, 11.7.2, and 11.7.3, who are eligible for the use of a scribe but choose not to avail the
facility, may also be granted compensatory time of 20 minutes per hour of examination, if they so desire.

11.7.11. Conditions regarding engagement of scribe shall be subject to various provisions/orders of the competent authority, as amended
from time to time.

12.0. NO OBJECTION CERTIFICATE (NOC) FROM PRESENT EMPLOYER:


Candidates serving (including those undergoing induction training/probation) in any Central/State Government Department
including Railways or Public Sector Undertakings, may apply directly to the RRBs duly informing their employer. Shortlisted
candidates should produce an NOC from the employer on the date of DV, failing which their candidature will be cancelled. It is the
sole responsibility of the candidate to submit the NOC from his/her current employer within the prescribed time limit during/at the
time of Document verification/empanelment/appointment, failing which his/her candidature/empanelment/appointment will be
rejected & cancelled.

NOTE: Candidates should note that in case a communication is received from their employer, by the RRB concerned, withholding
permission to the candidates applying for/appearing in the examination, their application/candidature will be liable to be re jected
/cancelled.
13.0. RECRUITMENT PROCESS:
(a) Candidates should apply only through ONLINE mode through any of the official websites of the RRBs. Candidates can
apply to only one RRB for a pay level and only one common ONLINE application (in order of preference for any or all the
notified posts in that pay level for which the candidate is eligible and interested to apply) should be submitted by a
candidate in a pay level. The selection of RRB once exercised shall be final. Application to more than one RRB for the
same pay level by a candidate will lead to rejection of all the applications for that Pay Level.

(b) The recruitment process shall comprise of the following stages:


(i) Computer Based Test
(ii) Document Verification (DV) and
(iii) Medical Examination (ME)

(c) Information on examination schedule and venues will be given to eligible candidates in due course through RRB
websites, SMS and email.
(d) Request for postponement of any of the stages or for change of venue, date and shift will not be entertained under any
circumstances.

13.1 Computer Based Test (CBT):


There will be a separate CBT for each pay level.

(A) Pattern & Syllabus of CBT for Pay Level- 5 post i.e., Technician Gr I Signal
(i) Total Duration: 90 min & Total Questions: 100
(ii) There shall be negative marking @1/3rd marks for each wrong answer.
(iii) Normalization of marks will be done for CBT held in multiple shifts.

(iv) Minimum percentage of marks for eligibility in various communities: UR–40%, EWS–40%, OBC (Non-Creamy
Layer)-30%, SC-30% and ST-25%. This is also applicable to Ex. Servicemen category candidates, as per their
community. These percentages of marks for eligibility may be relaxed by 2% marks for PwBD candidates in case
of shortage of PwBD candidates against vacancies reserved for them.
(v) The marks scored in CBT shall be used for shortlisting of candidates for further stages of this recruitment
process
(vi) Syllabus for CBT of Technician Gr I Signal: Questions will be of objective type with multiple choice answers and
are likely to cover topics pertaining to the following syllabus
General Awareness: Knowledge of Current affairs, Indian geography, culture and history of India including
freedom struggle, Indian Polity and constitution, Indian Economy, Environmental issues concerning India and
the World, Sports, General scientific and technological developments, etc.
General Intelligence and Reasoning: Analogies, Alphabetical and Number Series, Coding and Decoding,
Mathematical operations, Relationships, Syllogism, Jumbling, Venn Diagram, Data Interpretation and
Sufficiency, Conclusions and decision making, Similarities and differences, Analytical reasoning, Classification,
Directions, Statement – Arguments and Assumptions, etc.
Basics of Computers and Applications: Architecture of Computers; input and Output devices; Storage devices,
Networking, Operating System like Windows, Unix, Linux; MS Office; Various data representation; Internet and
Email; Websites & Web Browsers; Computer Virus.
Mathematics: Number system, Rational and irrational numbers, BODMAS rule, Quadratic Equations, Arithmetic
Progression, Similar Triangles, Pythagoras Theorem, Co-ordinate Geometry, Trigonometrical Ratios, Heights
and distances, Surface area and Volume; Sets: Sets and their representations, Empty set, Finite and Infinite
sets, Equal sets, Subsets, Subsets of a set of real numbers, Universal set, Venn diagrams, Union and Intersection
of sets, Difference of sets, Complement of a set, Properties of Complement; Statistics: Measures of Dispersion:
Range, Mean deviation, variance and standard deviation of ungrouped/grouped data; probability occurrence of
events, exhaustive events, mutually exclusive events.
Basic Science and Engineering: Physics fundamentals- Units, Measurements, Mass, Weight, Density, Work,
Power, and Energy, Speed and Velocity, Heat and Temperature; Electricity and Magnetism- Electric Charge,
Field, and Intensity, Electric Potential and Potential Difference, Simple Electric Circuits, Conductors, Non-
conductors/Insulators, Ohm’s Law and its Limitations, Resistances in Series and Parallel of a Circuit and Specific
Resistance, Relation between Electric Potential, Energy, and Power (Wattage), Ampere’s Law, Magnetic Force
on Moving Charged Particle and Long Straight Conductors, Electromagnetic Induction, Faraday’s Law, and
Electromagnetic Flux, Magnetic Field, Magnetic Induction; Electronics and Measurements- Basic Electronics,
Digital Electronics, Electronic Devices and Circuits, Microcontroller, Microprocessor, Electronic Measurements,
Measuring Systems and Principles, Range Extension Methods, Cathode Ray Oscilloscope, LCD, LED Panel,
Transducers.

(i) Total Duration: 90 minutes & Total Questions: 100

type with multiple choice answers and are likely to cover topics pertaining to the following syllabus

Mathematics: Number system, BODMAS, Decimals, Fractions, LCM, HCF, Ratio and Proportion, Percentages,
Mensuration, Time and Work; Time and Distance, Simple and Compound Interest, Profit and Loss, Algebra, Geometry
and Trigonometry, Elementary Statistics, Square Root, Age Calculations, Calendar & Clock, Pipes & Cistern etc.

General Intelligence and Reasoning: Analogies, Alphabetical and Number Series, Coding and Decoding,
Mathematical operations, Relationships, Syllogism, Jumbling, Venn Diagram, Data Interpretation and
Sufficiency, Conclusions and decision making, Similarities and differences, Analytical reasoning, Classification,
Directions, Statement – Arguments and Assumptions etc.

General Science: The syllabus under this shall cover Physics, Chemistry and Life Sciences of 10th standard level.
General Awareness: on current affairs in science & technology, sports, culture, personalities, economics, politics
and any other subject of importance.

It may be noted that the topics listed above are illustrative and not necessarily exhaustive.

13.2 Document Verification (DV):


(a) Candidates will be shortlisted for Document Verification based on their marks and merit in the CBT for the respective Pay
Levels. The number of shortlisted candidates will be equal to the number of vacancies.

(b) In case two or more candidates secure equal marks, their merit position shall be determined by age criteria i.e., the older
candidate shall be given higher merit than the younger candidate.

(c) Appointment of selected candidates is subject to their passing the requisite Medical Fitness Test to be conducted by the
Railway Administration and final verification of all essential documents and verification of antecedents / character of the
candidates.

(d) In case of any shortfall in empanelment or other exigencies, RRBs reserve the right to utilise the candidates down in the merit
list if required, as per merit and options of such candidates. This however, will not confer any vested right on such candida tes
to be considered for appointment

(e) Candidates may please note that RRBs only recommend names of empanelled candidates to the Railway Administrations
concerned. The offer of appointment is issued only by the respective Railway Administrations.
