Inside Out 2: Script Concept
Scene 1: Introduction to the Feelings
(Interior: Riley’s Mind - Control Room)
The scene begins with a sweeping shot of the control room, similar to
the first movie, with bright lights and whirring buttons. The camera
moves in to reveal the familiar faces of the emotions: Joy, Sadness,
Anger, Disgust, and Fear.
Narrator: "In the mind of every child, there are many emotions, each
one responsible for guiding the feelings and decisions that shape their
world. Today, we join Riley once again as her emotions navigate a
whole new chapter in her life."
Joy: (cheerful, as always) "Alright, team! It's another exciting day
ahead, and I’m sure we’ll make it another joyful one, right?"
Sadness: (a little hesitant) "But, what if something goes wrong? Maybe
we should just... prepare for the worst..."
Fear: (nervously checking the controls) "Y-yeah! What if there's a
surprise? A big one? A HUGE one!"
Disgust: (rolling her eyes) "Please, don't remind me about surprises.
Last time, I ended up wearing those hideous socks."
Anger: (fists clenching) "Yeah, I can't let that go... But, hey, if
something goes wrong today, I’m ready to let loose. You don't want to
mess with me when I’m fired up!"
Just then, a small, new figure enters the scene, looking a bit
overwhelmed. It's Anxiety, a timid, frazzled character with frizzy hair,
constantly biting her nails.
Anxiety: (hesitant) “Uh, h-hi, everyone. Is it okay if I’m here? I—I just
wanted to make sure we’re all prepared for the new changes... y’know?”
Joy: (grinning) "Of course! We’re all about adapting here. The more, the
merrier!"
The team greets Anxiety, though there’s a noticeable tension. Anxiety
shifts nervously behind the other emotions, looking as if she's trying to
anticipate everything at once.
Riley: (to herself, looking a bit unsure) "I hope today goes well... I’ve
been feeling a little off lately. It's like there's this extra weight on me."
Riley: (sighing) "What if I mess things up... again? It feels like
everything’s just... changing too fast."
Riley: (with a small smile) "But I’ll try my best. I can handle this. I have
to."
Narrator: "And so, with the arrival of Anxiety, the team of emotions is
about to face new challenges—challenges Riley never imagined she'd
have to deal with…”
Scene 2: Riley’s Ice Hockey Match
(Interior: Riley’s Ice Hockey Game)
The scene cuts to Riley, in her hockey gear, on the ice. She’s ready for
her first big game. The camera zooms in on her control room, and the
emotions are gearing up for the game.
Narrator: “Today is a big day for Riley. Her first hockey game—an
opportunity to prove herself, to challenge her limits, and face her fears.
But inside, things are about to get complicated.”
Joy: (clapping her hands together) "Okay, team! It’s game time! Let’s
keep things fun and light!"
Embarrassment: (gripping the controls) "W-wait, Riley's skating on
ice. What if she falls? What if she gets hurt? What if—"
Anxiety: (shuddering) "What if everything goes wrong? What if the
other players are really mean? What if Riley can't focus?"
Anger: (furiously pressing buttons) "Enough of this worrying! We need
action. She’s playing to win!"
(The game begins, and Riley starts off strong, weaving through players.
But as she skates past an opponent, she’s knocked down hard. The
emotions go into overdrive.)
Narrator: “The game is moving fast, and Riley is doing her best to stay
focused. But hockey, like life, doesn’t always go according to plan. And
sometimes, the hardest part is getting back up after you’ve been knocked
down.”
Embarrassment: "Oh no! Is she okay?!"
Disgust: "Ugh, that was brutal. Did you see how the other team played?
Totally unfair!"
Anger: (yelling) "Who do they think they are?! I swear if they try that
again—!"
Anxiety begins pacing, mumbling, visibly flustered.
Anxiety: "This is bad, this is so bad. What if she doesn’t get up? What if
the whole team sees her fall? What if... what if—"
Sadness: (quietly) "Maybe this is just part of the game. Sometimes,
things go wrong. But we can help Riley handle it."
The camera focuses on Riley, who, after a brief moment of hesitation,
gets back on her feet and skates back into the game.
Joy: (smiling) "That's the spirit, Riley! We’ve got this!"
Riley: (panting, skating again) "I can’t quit now... I need to keep going.
I’ve worked too hard for this."
Riley: (determined) "I’ve fallen before... but I can always get back up. I
just need to focus."
Riley: (nervously but with resolve) "No matter what happens, I can
handle this. I’ve got this."
Sadness: (softly, with a sigh) "Sometimes, it's not just about winning.
It's about learning how to deal with setbacks."
Disgust: (shaking head) "She’s handling this better than I expected. But
still, some people don’t play fair."
Narrator: “And in that moment, Riley finds something more than just
strength—she finds the courage to keep going, to embrace the challenge,
even when it feels impossible.”
The game intensifies, and the emotions work together to manage the
stress.
Scene 3: Riley Finds Emotional Balance Again
(Interior: Riley’s Mind - Control Room)
The game ends, and Riley walks off the rink, exhausted but proud. The
emotions are all gathered in the control room, still a little on edge from
the chaos. Anxiety is breathing heavily, still jittery.
Narrator: “After the storm of emotions and the chaos of the game, Riley
steps off the ice, tired but triumphant. But in her mind, the real work is
just beginning. Her emotions need to find their way back to balance."
Joy: (relieved) "That was intense, but Riley pulled through. We made it,
everyone!"
Embarrassment: (awkwardly) "Y-yeah, but I still don’t think I’ll ever
be okay with ice hockey."
Sadness: (nodding thoughtfully) "Sometimes, we need to experience the
tough moments, even if they make us feel... sad or scared."
Anxiety: (sighing, her nerves finally calming down) "I’m sorry I freaked
out earlier... It’s just... what if something bad happens?"
Disgust: (smiling gently) "It’s okay, Anxiety. You helped us prepare for
the worst. That’s important too."
Anger: (grinning a bit) "Hey, we made it through, didn’t we? I mean,
Riley did great, but if anyone tries to mess with her again, they’ll have to
deal with me!" (slamming his fist down with intensity, but there's a hint
of pride)
Joy walks up to Anxiety with a smile.
Joy: (gently) "Anxiety, you don’t always have to predict the worst. But
it’s good that you’re here to remind us of the potential risks. We all help
each other, in our own ways."
The camera zooms out as all the emotions stand together, looking out at
Riley. Riley’s face appears in the background, calm and thoughtful,
having learned how to balance her feelings.
Riley: (smiling, more at ease) "It’s been a crazy day... but I made it. I
faced my fears, and even if it didn’t go perfectly, I’m okay with it."
Riley: (deep breath) "I guess it’s okay to feel a little anxious sometimes.
It doesn’t mean I can’t still do my best."
Riley: (determined) "I’ve learned it’s not about being perfect. It’s about
keeping going, no matter what."
Narrator: “In the end, Riley learns that it's okay to feel all kinds of
emotions—joy, sadness, fear, anger, disgust, anxiety, and even
embarrassment. Each one has its moment, and each one plays a part in
guiding her through life’s challenges.”
Narrator: “The secret isn’t in trying to shut out certain feelings, but in
learning to embrace them all. When we find balance, we find ourselves.”
The screen fades to black as the music swells, ending the scene on a
hopeful note.
