Health & Safety Precautions in ICT Learning
1. Correct Sitting Posture
Always sit upright with your back supported. The top of the screen should be at eye
level, and your feet should rest flat on the floor or on a footrest. Adjust your chair
and desk height for comfort.
2. Avoid Wrist Strain (RSI)
Use wrist supports if necessary and take regular breaks. Keep your wrists straight
when typing to reduce strain.
3. Teacher/Parent Supervision
Children should be supervised while using ICT devices to ensure correct posture,
safe browsing, and proper time management.
4. Safe Typing Habits
Keep forearms roughly horizontal while typing. Use an adjustable chair and
keyboard at the right height to avoid strain.
5. Eye Strain Prevention
Take breaks every 20 minutes (20-20-20 rule: Look at something 20 feet away for
20 seconds). Ensure proper screen brightness and use anti-glare screens if needed.
6. Back & Neck Pain
Incorrect posture and prolonged sitting may lead to back and neck pain. Always
adjust your chair, keep feet flat, and sit close to the desk.
7. Headaches from Screen Use
Headaches can occur due to screen glare, poor posture, or long hours of computer
use. Take regular breaks and ensure good lighting in the room.
8. Online Safety
Be cautious of cyberbullying, scams, and unsafe websites. Always use strong
passwords and avoid sharing personal information online.
9. Electrical Safety
Avoid overloading sockets and keep liquids away from devices. Always switch off
computers properly after use.
