Examples tracing paper, frosted glass thin plastics
5. Opaque materials : Materials that do not allow light to pass through. Examples wood,
stone, book etc.

Characteristics of a shadow:
i ) A shadow is always formed on the opposite side of the source.
ii) It is always dark because they are places where the light cannot go.
iii) It only shows the outline of the object and not the details.
iv) The size of a shadow depends on the position of the source of light, the object and
the screen.

2) What are the conditions required for the formation of a shadow ?

ground, screen.

i) Light travels in a straight line.
ii)It is a form of energy.
iii )It can be reflected .
iv)It travels very fast.
v)It travels in all directions from its source.

V.Differentiate between Luminous and non-luminous objects

Luminous objects Non-luminous objects

1.The objects that give out light are known as 1.The objects that do not give out light are
