8th Topic: Unit No.

6 Programming

Focus: Q/Ans (Shorts)

QC. Name the Category that Perform Following Action:

1. Used for moving sprites around the stage. Ans. Motion Block
2. Used for animating sprites, giving them speech bubbles, and changing their
size and appearance. Ans. Looks Block
3. Used for playing recording or musical notes. Ans. Sound Block
4. Used to make the sprite perform according to the event done.
Ans. Event Block
5. Used to describe what happens when, and for making bits of your program
repeat.
Ans. Control Block
6. Used to test whether your sprite is touching another sprite or another color,
or to get information about other sprites.
Ans. Sensing Block
7. Used for Maths Ans. Operators Block
random numbers, and doing things to text.
C. Answer the following Short Questions
Q1.Explain the difference between programming and program.
Program Programming
A set of instructions is called The art of writing instructions to tell
a program. Programs are a computer what to do is called
written in a programming programming.
language Programming may be done in a textual
computer language e-g. GW. BASIC, C,
C+ + etc., or any visual language like
scratch. LOTUS Turtle, etc.

Q2. Why is Scratch considered to be a good programming language for

animation, games and storytelling?
Ans. Scratch: A visual programming language scratch is a programing
language that is perfect for making games, animations, interactive stories and
other visually rich programs. Scratch is easier. Scratch is created by the MIT
Media Lab. It is used all over the world and has been translated into more than
70 different languages.
Q3. Explain the usage of the events and control category.
ANS. Events Category: Events category is used to make the sprite perform
according to the event done. For example when the green flag is clicked.
Control Category: Control category is used to describe what happens when,
and for making bits of your program repeat.
Q4. What is variable?
ANS. In programming, a variable is a place for some value in memory, like x
and y are popular variable in algebra. In scratch, variables are represented
with blocks shaped like elongated circles.
Q5. What are Boolean expressions? How can you identify them?
Ans. Boolean Expressions: In programming, a Boolean expression is an
expression that is either true or false in scratch. Any block shaped like an
elongated diamond is a Boolean expression.
Q6. Can we have more than one backdrop in our program? If yes, then how to
create them and change the backdrop?
Ans. Yes we can have more than one backdrop in our program.
* Click on choose a backdrop to select any backdrop.
* Select the required backdrop.
* New backdrop will be implemented.
Q7. What are the three main blocks for cloning in scratch? Explain them in
two lines.
Ans. Cloning: A sprite can duplicate itself while the project is active using the
cloning capability. There are three main cloning blocks are as follows:
1.Create clone Block: It creates a duplicate of the sprite you specify.
2.A Stack Block: In this block you just need to add the coding.
3.An End Block: This block gets rid of the copy.
Q8. Explain any five different categories of blocks.
Ans. There are five different categories of Blocks:
Motion: It is used for moving sprites around the stage.
Looks: It is used for animating sprites, giving them speech bubbles, and
changing their size and appearance.
Sound: It is used to regulate sound functions and playing recordings or
musical notes.
Sensing: It is used to test your sprite is touching another sprite or another
colour.
Operators: Operators are used for Math equations, random numbers etc.
There are blocks used in decision making.
Q9. What are some of the limits of Scratch?
Ans. Limits or scratch: It does not offer a progression to text based
programming language.
* It is missing features for advanced coders.
* It does not offer an option for making 3D projects.
* The maximum scratch project size is 50 MB while all the assets are limited
to 10 MB
Q10. What does this block of code do?
ANS. *This statement switches the control to costume 2 when clicked.
*It will set the size of the block to l00%. *Turn the cat to 15 degrees.
*Move the cat further 10 Steps. *If the cat reaches the edge it bounce.

Topic : Unit No.6 Programming
Focus: Exercise Q/A (Long)
Q1. Explain loops with examples.
Loop: A Loop in a programming can execute statement several times
depending on a condition.
Types of loop:

Forever: This is very helpful for things like making background music or
other actions that you do want to stop.
Repeat: This loop will allow you to play a loop a specific number of times or
repeat an activity.
Repeat until: This loop will allow you to play a loop until some condition is
true.
Q2. Write a note on any four elements in programming.
ANS. Elements of Programming in Scratch:
1. Variables: In programming, a variable is a place for some value in
memory, like x and y is popular variable in algebra. In scratch, variables
are represented with blocks shaped like elongated circles
2. Statements: In programming. a statement is simply a directive that
allows the computer to do something.
3. Boolean Expressions: In programming, a Boolean expression is an
expression that is either true or false. In scratch, any block shaped like an
elongated diamond is a Boolean expression.
4. Conditional Statements: Statements with a condition and a result are said
to be conditional. Depending on a condition is true of false.
