How to create FBA Shipment
Who is this for? Intended for individuals who are involved in or responsible for managing the
shipment process.
Objective: To help understand the new process workflow of shipment creation and learn more
about setting up shipments for case packs or individuals, the difference between LTL and SPD
shipments, as well as the shipping labels and costs incurred during shipment creation.
Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) shipment creation refers to the process of preparing and
sending inventory to an Amazon fulfillment center. It allows Amazon to store, pack, and ship the
items to customers on the seller's behalf. The seller is responsible for creating the shipment and
providing the necessary information.
Occasionally, our sellers will ask us to create an FBA shipment for them. This SOP will walk
you through the steps in creating FBA shipments. This new streamlined shipment creation
workflow requires fewer steps to replenish your FBA inventory which is more straightforward
than the old version.
Note: Before we create the shipment, the seller must provide the information about the inventory
they want to send. Create a separate copy of the FBA Plan Template and ask the seller to fill it
out. You may proceed with the following steps after they complete the template.
Follow these steps to create a shipping plan
1. ) On the seller central home page, hover your mouse over Inventory and choose Shipment.
2.) On the Shipments menu drop-down, click on Send to Amazon. You can use the active/existing
workflow or you can start a new shipping plan/workflow by clicking on Start New on the far
right side of the page.
3.) Set the address of the shipment where you want to ship items from and the marketplace
destination. Note that this cannot be changed once you confirm your shipment.
4.) Select multiple listings by clicking the checkbox on the left side of the item or search the
item/s by Title, ASIN, SKU, or FNSKU.
5.) Set the Packing details and Quantity to send. In Packing details, we can choose how the items
are packed, prepped, and labeled. You can select either Individual Units or a Case Pack.
Individual Units contain more than one SKU (mixed-SKU boxes) while a Case Pack is if you
pack multiple units of the same SKU in a shipping box. You can create a case pack template of
up to 3 templates that can be reused for future shipments.
How to create a case pack template.
a.) From the Packing details drop-down menu, select Create new case pack template.
b.) Enter the following information into the template such as packing template name, template
type, units per box, box weight and dimension, prep and label units. Then Save.
c.) Select the case pack template you created and enter the box quantity in the Quantity to
Send. Print SKU labels and provide the expiration date if your products have a shelf life. Click
the Ready to Send button.
d.) Once you click the Ready to Send button, the workflow will proceed to Step 2: Confirmed
shipping.
How to create packing details for individual units

work on.
b.) Enter the following information into the template such as the packing template name, preps,
and labels. Then click Save.
c.) When you are done, enter the number of units for each SKU that you want to send to
Amazon. Provide the expiration date if your products have a shelf life and click the Ready to
Pack button.
d.) Next is to click the Pack individual units button and the workflow will proceed to Step 1b –
Pack individual units
6.) Step 1b – Pack individual units: It requires you to enter the SKUs' box content information.
In the Packing information, it will ask you, “How many boxes will these units fit into?”
• If you select “Everything will fit into one box” and click the Confirm button, you will be
prompted to provide the box weight and dimensions where all of the items are packed. See the
screenshot below.
• If you select “Multiple boxes will be needed” and click the Confirm button, it will ask
you, “How will box content information be provided” Below that is a drop-down option.
• You can enter box content information for up to 10 boxes using a web form. To do this, see the
sample
• Provide box content information using an Excel file. See sample.
For more information about this, see the help link – Send to Amazon: Pack individual units
7.) After providing the box content information for each SKU that you want to ship, the
workflow will proceed to Step 2 – Confirm shipping
8.) On this page, you will select the ship date, shipping method, and shipping carrier.
Select your preferred shipping mode.
→ Small Parcel Delivery (SPD) - consists of units packed in individual boxes, and each box is
individually labeled for delivery. These are normally smaller shipments sent via DHL, UPS,
FedEx, or local postal services. Small parcel delivery (SPD) with a partnered carrier: 200-box
limit per shipment. Small parcel delivery (SPD) with a non-partnered carrier: 500-box
limit per shipment.
Choose between UPS (Amazon-partnered carrier) or a Non-Amazon partnered carrier. If a Non-
Amazon partnered carrier is chosen, another drop-down menu will open for selection.
• Select your carrier. You can take advantage of discounted shipping rates and automated
tracking by selecting an Amazon-partnered carrier and buying and printing shipping labels in the
workflow. Alternatively, you can use a non-partnered carrier to book shipping outside of Seller
Central.
• Review the shipments assigned and any applicable estimated charges for shipping, prep, and
labeling, and click Accept and confirm shipping if everything looks right.
→ Less than Truckload (LTL) - used for the transportation of small freight or when freight
doesn't require the use of an entire trailer.
For the LTL method and you want to have a Lift-gate service.
Pallet requirements:
Box Limits:
- Boxes containing multiple Standard-Size units must not exceed 25 inches on any side.
- Boxes must not exceed the standard weight limit of 50 lb. unless they contain one single
Oversize* Unit that exceeds 50 lb.
- For a single Oversize* Unit that exceeds 50 lb., attach a label that clearly indicates "Team Lift"
on the top and sides of the box.
- For a single Oversize* Unit that exceeds 100 lb., attach a label that clearly indicates "Mech
Lift" on the top and sides of the box.
- Boxes containing Jewelry or Watches must not exceed 40 lb.
- If you are using an Amazon-Partnered carrier, accurately weigh and measure boxes and pallets
to ensure that the correct values are supplied for every shipment.
Note: UPS (Amazon-partnered carrier) is unavailable if one or more shipments contain
dangerous goods.
Once carrier service is chosen, you have to review the following because this cannot be undone
once accepted:
Total estimated prep
labeling
Placement
and shipping fees (other fees may apply)
Shipping destination
9.) After clicking the Accept and Confirm shipping button, the workflow will proceed to Step
3. Print Box Labels
10.) Click the Print button to have a box label for small parcel or pallet shipments.
11.) If you’re sending your inventory in pallet shipments, the workflow will proceed to Step 4 -
Confirm carrier and pallet information after you print box labels.
• Provide your shipment information such as the freight ready date, contact information as well
as pallet information (Dimension, Stackable & Count)
For more information about Confirm carrier and pallet information (for pallet shipments
only), see here: https://sellercentral.amazon.com/help/hub/reference/GBJBZ65P2LHZM2DG
12.) Once you have confirmed your pallet configurations and accepted the shipping cost
estimates in step 4 of the Send to Amazon workflow, you can print labels for your pallets | Step
5 – Print pallet labels (for pallet shipments with an Amazon-partnered carrier only)
TAKE NOTE:
13.) Final step – Tracking details (for small parcel and pallet shipments not using an
Amazon-partnered carrier)
If you’re using an Amazon-partnered carrier, we’ll generate the carrier tracking ID
information for you, which you can review in this step. No action is required from you.
If you're using a non-partnered carrier, and the carrier shares the information with you,
provide the tracking IDs for all of the boxes in your shipments. You can provide details either in
the Send to Amazon Tracking details step or in the Track shipment tab of the Shipment summary
page.
Note: A bill of lading (BOL) will be provided if you are using an Amazon-partnered carrier. The
BOL will be generated on the morning of the pickup date. You must provide a valid BOL to the
carrier or the shipment will be refused upon delivery.
Your shipment or shipments are now complete.
