Process Chart

1. A process chart graphically represents the sequence of steps in a process from raw materials to finished product. It allows examination of the process to identify improvement opportunities. 2. Method study symbols are used to represent different activities in a process, including operations, inspections, transport between operations, delays, and storage. 3. Flow process charts provide greater detail than outline process charts by including information like time required, quantity, and distance moved for each operation, inspection, delay, and storage in the process.

Process Sheet/Chart
WHAT IS A PROCESS
CHART ?
Graphical representation of the
sequence of steps or tasks (workflow)
constituting a process, from raw materials
through to the finished product.
It serves as a tool for examining the
process in detail to identify areas of
possible improvements.
Method study symbols
S.No Symbol Activity Description

Steps in a process of
1. Operation modifying a material, part
or product

For quality (test) or quantity

2. Inspection (count); doesn't change
shape or move product

Movement of workers,
material or equipment from
3. Transport one operation to another;
not if movement is part of
an operation

Work waiting between

4. Delay operations

Controlled, authorization
5. Storage needed to put/retrieve part
into storage

FLOW PROCESS
CHART
FLOW PROCESS CHART

When the overall idea of the process

has been established it is possible to
go into greater details.
Flow process chart can be defined as
a graphical presentation of all
operations, inspections, delays and
storages occurring during a process
or procedure which includes
information considered necessary for
analysis like time required, quantity
and distance moved etc.
TYPES OF FLOW PROCESS
CHART

Man type - It records what

the worker does.

Material type - It records what

happens to the material.

Equipment type - It records how the

equipment is used.
