Carry out water audit activities to find out
how the consumption of water at home or
school based on water bills over the past
few months. Calculate the average water.
Jabatan Air Negeri Sabah
Average Monthly M³ Water Consumption
For the month of January was 96 M³, March was 72 M³ and May was 70
M³.
To find out the average monthly M³ water from January to May?
a) Average = Sum ÷ Count
b) Average = 96 M³ + 72 M³ + 70 M³ ÷ 5 months
c) Average = 238M³ ÷ 5
d) Average = 47.6M³
Thus, 47.6M³ is the average monthly M³ water usage
*The calculations above is based on type of tariff domestic 1 (Individual
Domestic Consumer).
Water Bill
Average Monthly RM Amount
(January – May 2022)
For the month of January RM88.60 , March was RM53.60 and May was
RM55.00
a) RM88.60 + RM53.60 + RM55.00 = RM197.20
b) RM197.20 ÷ 5 months (Jan – May)
c) RM39.44
Thus, RM39.44 is the average monthly amount.

Importance of water
• According to the United Nations, 844 million people look access to
clean water globally. Thus, it is important us as an inhabitant on Earth
to save water. Saving water protects the water supply which also
protects the balance of life on earth. The overuse of water can
directly or indirectly alter the habitat of fish, as well as numerous
other life forms. Reducing our use of water also helps to reduce
pollution and conserve fuel resources.
Even though over 70% of the
earth is covered in water,
nearly 97% of the water is
salt water, which is not
suitable for drinking.
Ways To Conserve Water
• Always turn taps off tightly so they do not drip.
• Promptly repair any leaks in and around your taps. (One leak can waste several
thousand litres of water per year.)
• When brushing your teeth, turn the water off while you are actually brushing. Use
short bursts of water for cleaning your brush. (This saves about 80% of the water
normally used.)
• When washing or shaving, partially fill the sink and use that water rather than
running the tap continuously. (This saves about 60% of the water normally used.)
Use short bursts of water to clean razors.
• When hand-washing dishes, never run water continuously. Wash dishes in a
partially filled sink and then rinse them using the spray attachment on your tap.
• Use an aerator and/or a water flow-reducer attachment on your tap to reduce your
water usage.
