What is Web 2.0? Web 2.0 is about users and content, instead of just surfing on the Internet. It's about what the Internet can do for an active collaborator, rather than a passive viewer. It is also the move toward more social, collaborative, interactive and responsive web.
Web 1.0 vs Web 2.0
I.  Wiki   Group collaboration software   Provides tools for groups of people to Add, Edit and, Remove content in “real time” Useful for collaborative writing or information collection and sharing
Features of wiki   Easy to use and learn People located in different part of the world can work on the same document It  allows anyone who accesses it to contribute or modify contents Can be public or password protected Permission at the page level and the tool level (You can set permissions across the entire wiki while specifying different permissions for particular pages) You can make track changes (you can easily see who changed what and when) Email notifications (You can put a watch on a page to receive email notification each time the page is changed)

II.  Blog Easy-to-use platforms for online publishing Started as personal journals but are now used across many contexts Consists of a series of regular entries displayed in reverse chronological order
Features of Blog   can be an excellent way of sharing knowledge within the organization (Intranet environment) can be positive ways of getting feedback, as readers react to certain pieces, suggest story ideas, etc…  have potential to help the organization develop stronger relationships and brand loyalty with its customers  can build the profile of the writer, showcasing the organization as having talent and expertise it allow multiple authorship, the integration of several media in one site (photos, video, RSS feeds)

III.  Twitter Networked web and mobile phone based shared short messaging system Also called Micro-blogging because one can frequently send short updates Allows users to write brief text updates and publish less than 140 characters Viewed by anyone or by a restricted group which can be chosen by the user

IV.  Yammer A micro-blogging service like Twitter, it allows users to post updates of their activities follow others' updates Tag content, etc….. Unlike Twitter, Yammer focuses on businesses, and only individuals with the same email domain can join a given network
Features of Yammer   Public and private groups can be created within the network It has file and photo attachments  Sending and receiving messages via SMS, iPhone, iPod touch and Email Security features like removing users who no longer work at the company, IP restrictions, etc. Network color and logo customization Integration with Social bookmarking sites

V.  Flickr Flickr is a popular online photo sharing website that allows members to upload their photos in customizable albums.  Features of Flickr Free and easy to use Upload and share photos  Photos can be organized into sets and tagged, enabling users to find specific photos of their choice You can sign up for a free account, or a “pro” account that entails a charge for unlimited uploads  Re-use Flickr images, on your web pages, blogs and publications Categorize photos as either public or private

VI.  Slideshare An online community resource where users and organizations can upload and share presentations enabling people to exchange ideas and Communicate information
Features of  Slideshare   It is the best way to share your presentations with the world Your ideas can be found and shared by a wide audience, this will increase you world presence Anyone can easily find presentations on topics that interest them.  You can tag, download, or embed presentations into your blogs & websites. Add your comments to each slide so that your audience doesn’t lose the context of your presentation.

VII.  RSS RSS (Really Simple Syndication) technology is used to create a “feed” (list) of headlines and descriptions of specific information that you can have delivered to you, rather than having to go look for it. Features of RSS  It helps you get fresh content on your desk It contains headlines and descriptions of specific information It allows you to easily stay informed by retrieving the latest content from the sites you are interested in It helps people to keep up with their favorite web sites in an automated manner that’s easier than checking them manually. It is a free and easy way to promote a web site and its content without the need to advertise or create complicated content sharing partnerships.
VIII.  CSE(Custom Search Engine) Google’s custom search engine is easy to customize, fast to implement, works across multiple sites.  Features of CSE Helps us to query across all our web services  Helps us to customize the look and feel of the results to match our site Provides fast and relevant search results Includes one or more websites, or specific web pages It also allows the owner to see search frequency and most popular queries.

IX.  Delicious Social bookmarking service that allows you   to Tag , Save Manage and Share useful web links all in one place
Features of Delicious   Bookmark any site on the Internet, and get to it from anywhere Share your bookmarks, and get bookmarks in return from colleagues or anyone whom you work with It can be tagged, given key words and also short notes for easy accessibility and searching It has the most useful and interesting bookmarks on the web Increased Visibility & Branding (Submitting to Social Bookmarking Sites puts your blog/website out there in front of millions of people). It can be easily accessed in multiple ways through any browser or RSS reader
