HOW DID WE GET HERE?
Ogilvy CommonHealth Worldwide teamed up with independent data
provider Patient Connect to showcase some innovative and collaborative
technology at this year’s European Respiratory Society (ERS) Congress.
Patient Connect is an international organization specializing in patient
education at the point–of–dispensing, tackling the issues of medicine
compliance throughout Europe and America, and in turn supporting
millions of patients managing their diseases.
Armed with vast amounts of patient data, Ogilvy CommonHealth
Worldwide and Patient Connect came together to fuse a partnership
elevating this data, technology, and visual expertise.
THE BIRTH OF THE
VR DATA VISUALIZER
Simply pointing and clicking through vast amounts of data laid out in 2D via charts and graphs
doesn’t provide an effective way to illustrate insights from these deep data sets.
Immersing the user in a 3D experience with the data brings us closer to seeing and
understanding the relationships.
That is why moving into virtual reality and giving the user a first-hand look at the data coming
to life has the ability to convey the flow and connections illustrating impactful insights.
PATIENT JOURNEY
Our internal teams began discussing an approach and conceptual
design. The original design mapped the entire patient journey from
start to finish on the screen at the same time.
Despite the holistic view, this was quite busy and would end up looking
cluttered with this vast set of respiratory data.
THE APPROACH
The new approach instead has the
patient respiratory data breaking
the journey down into stages,
giving users a clearer view of
where their patients are during
certain stages of the journey.
Users can then switch between
stages, compare the sizes of the
data-planets, and watch the orbs
transition from one planet to the
next, or get sucked into the black
hole of lost patients.
USABILITY
The addition of the Leap Motion
controllers allows anyone to jump
into VR and feel right at home as
opposed to getting people
accustomed to various hand
controllers.
The combination of full visual
immersion and natural hand
gestures allows the user to dive
into the data in ways that have not
been possible to date.
