Princess Diana once described her sex life with Charles as 'very odd'

Princess Diana spoke candidly about her relationship with her former husband King Charles in a series of recordings that became the subject of a documentary in the US

Princess Diana and King Charles very publicly had a marriage that was far from perfect with many of their problems highly publicized over the years.

One aspect where their relationship broke down was due to an alleged lack of sexual compatibility. The issue was something which Diana was not shy of talking about and in a documentary that aired in the US over 20 years ago.

In the broadcast Diana described the "very odd" sex life she had with Charles, with the recordings of the former Princess of Wales made around the time she was separating from him. The interviews took place at Kensington Palace between 1992 and 1993.

Diana would never have expected the conversation to be made public as she shared her rhetoric on what had gone on behind the scenes of their troubled relationship. She claimed that she and Charles had only had sex once every three weeks, with him seeing his mistress Camilla Parker Bowles at the same frequency before they married.

The couple then stopped having sex entirely when Prince Harry was born in 1984. She claimed the then-Prince Charles had told her, "Well, I refuse to be the only Prince of Wales who never had a mistress."

She also explained how they had only met 13 times prior to getting married in 1981. She also described a moment that left her distraught when Charles was asked by an ITN News interviewer if they were in love following the announcement of their engagement.

Charles had responded, "Whatever in love means." Diana said, "That threw me completely ... Oh God. Absolutely traumatized me."

She also confirmed that she had confided her worries in the Queen who she referred to as "the top lady" Diana claimed she had said in response, "I don't know what you should do. Charles is hopeless."

Another clip from the tapes saw Diana claim that she was suspicious that her former bodyguard, Barry Mannakee's death in a motorcycle crash had not been an accident. She had a romantic affair with Mannakee before his death.

The tapes of the conversations with Diana were sold to NBC by Peter Settelen who had coached her in public speaking.

He won a legal battle with Diana's family to gain possession of them. He also claimed that 12 of the tapes were missing.
