Victoria Beckham admits she felt 'humiliated' as she was weighed on live TV on Call Her Daddy

Victoria Beckham spoke candidly to Call Her Daddy's Alex Cooper about a mortifying moment in the late 1990s with TV presenter Chris Evans that stuck with her over the years

Victoria Beckham sat down for the popular podcast Call Her Daddy and discussed everything from her childhood to her life with the Spice Girls and her relationship with her husband, David Beckham.

The singer and fashion designer was candid about her past struggles with disordered eating and body image, and recalled the horrifying moment when she was made to step on a scale on live television in 1999, just six months after giving birth to her first child, Brooklyn.

Victoria, also known as Posh Spice, was a member of one of the best-selling girl groups of all time, the Spice Girls, which catapulted her into the spotlight when she was just 20 years old.

The 51-year-old has also just released a three-part docuseries on Netflix, which chronicles her eponymous fashion brand's journey to Paris Fashion Week, where she discussed her struggles with weight and food. "I never spoke about it publicly, it really affects you. When you're told constantly you're not good enough. And I suppose that's been with me my whole life," Victoria confessed.

Call Her Daddy host Alex Cooper asked her about the time she was weighed on TV in front of a live studio audience in 1999 and how she felt in that moment, considering her struggles with her body image.

Victoria remembered feeling "very self-conscious" in that moment, adding that "it was the only part of the documentary that we were asked not to include," though the footage from the Channel 4 show TFI Friday with Chris Evans is still available online.

"It was so humiliating," she went on to say. "David was there, he was in the audience, and the camera shifts to him, and he looks a little horrified as well. But back in the day, those things were acceptable."

Alex then asked her what the point of her being weighed was, to which she explained, "I suppose there is that old school thought process of, 'How quick do you bounce back to your weight after having a baby?'"

She continues, "I mean, after I had Brooklyn I was on the front page of a newspaper, a few days after, and there were arrows pointing to every single part of my body and where I had to lose the weight. Every single part. And again, it’s a very, very different world now."

A recording of the episode in question shows a 24-year-old Victoria sitting across from the host, wearing black pants and a black tank top as he asks, "A lot of girls want to know, because you look fantastic again, how did you get back to your shape after your birth?"

She replies, "I haven't done anything, I mean I'm really lazy… I don't go down to the gym or anything…"

He then asks her, "Is your weight back to normal?" to which she answers, "Yes, it is," before he reaches under his desk for a scale and says, "Can I check? Do you mind?"

Amid nervous laughter, Victoria says, "Oh no, you did this to Geri, didn't you! Geri was small," referring to her Spice Girls bandmate Geri Halliwell, who experienced a similar moment on the show.

Chris helps her onto the scale and reads the dial, "Eight stone, that's not bad at all, is it?" as the audience cheers. For reference, 8 stone is around 112 pounds.

Victoria Beckham is now streaming on Netflix.
