Idris Elba's Netflix crime thriller blasted by critics with 13% score but not everyone feels the same

An Idris Elba-led crime thriller was the subject of intense debate among critics and audiences following its release

An Idris Elba thriller that divided critics and audiences is presently sitting at number 10 on Netflix's top films list.

While Elba continues to be one of Britain's most celebrated performers, not every project in his filmography has earned widespread acclaim. This proves true for the 2014 crime thriller No Good Deed.

Elba plays Colin, a murderer who has just escaped from jail, while Oscar nominee Taraji P. Henson takes on the role of Terri, the defenseless woman, according to the Manchester Evening News, reports the Daily Record.

Completing the cast are The White Lotus star Leslie Bibb, The Cleaning Lady's Kate del Castillo and Henry Simmons from Agents of S. H.I. E.L. D.

Yet, despite featuring an impressive roster of talent, No Good Deed faced harsh criticism upon its initial release.

Rotten Tomatoes reviewers gave the thriller a dismal 13 percent score and their assessment was scathing.

The critical consensus reads: "Dull, derivative, and generally uninspired, No Good Deed wastes its stars' talents - and the audience's time."

Some viewers expressed disappointment, with one writing: "Oh, Mr Elba what where you thinking? It is a predictable film from the beginning to the end and a very stale story."

Another audience member noted: "...not even Idris Elba (I'm a big fan) or Taraji P. Henson's acting skills could elevate this lacklustre thriller."

However, others left glowing testimonials online. One observed: "No idea why this has gotten bad reviews. Absolutely amazing! My favourite actors from the 90s in incredible roles!".

"The entire cast was SO perfect and the story had such emotion, twists and turns, and humour at the same time! Highly recommend!".

Meanwhile, another gushed: "I loved the movie! I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. Great acting and real suspenseful."
