Bay County Fire Rescue performed CPR on the little boy before taking him to the hospital from their Panama City home, the county sheriff's office wrote in the affidavit. The baby was put on a ventilator in the hospital as he was "operating at a diminished capacity."

The baby was then taken to another hospital in Gainesville for intensive care.

After he was born on Aug. 18, the baby weighed 5 pounds 6 ounces. When weighed in the hospital on Oct. 2, he reportedly weighed 5 pounds 13 ounces.

While he could have a genetic disorder, hospital staff ruled that out after he appeared to gain weight while at the hospital.

Further medical examination showed severe malnourishment and neglect, and he "nearly" died due to his condition, officials said.

The baby's twin brother, who was brought to the Gainesville hospital, too, appeared "severely malnourished," the sheriff's office said on Facebook.

Officials noticed that Smith's house allegedly smelled like marijuana. The babies have since been released to be cared for by family members.

Smith is being held without bond on one count of child neglect and one count of aggravated child neglect at the Bay County Jail.

Her next court date is Nov. 13.

It comes after an evil dad's incest secret was hidden in a family photo before all seven were killed in a massacre.
