12 heartbreaking images show Gaza children struggling to collect water as fragile ceasefire limits aid

Heartbreaking images of several children attempting to collect water from a tankard in Deir al-Balah of the central region of Gaza have surfaced as both Israel and Hamas continue to participate in a fragile ceasefire.

Heartbreaking images of several children attempting to collect water from a tankard in Deir al-Balah of the central region of Gaza have surfaced as both Israel and Hamas continue to participate in a fragile ceasefire.

One of the photos shows a girl who looks no older than 7, standing with her hand on her hip, surrounded by jugs of water as other adults gather around her. Another photo shows lines of water jugs and gallons as people walk around to secure the basic necessity.

A third photo shows citizens of the Gaza Strip attempting to secure one or two jugs of water. Residents of the Deir al-Balah region have struggled to maintain their way of life after two years of relentless Israeli attacks. The images come after the IDF allegedly halted the aid of critical humanitarian supplies under the orders of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

According to a senior Israeli government official, the response was due to Hamas's alleged violation. The Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT) was informed that they were not authorized to approve the transfer of humanitarian aid.

According to reports, access to aid remains limited due to the lingering hostilities between Israel and Hamas, damaged infrastructure, and inspection regulations imposed by Israeli authorities. Crossings such as Rafah and Kerem Shalom have seen sporadic openings, often for limited timeframes and with only partial deliveries permitted.

Several international agencies, such as the United Nations and other NGOs have warned of catastrophic conditions plaguing Gaza. The World Health Organization (WHO) has described hospitals in northern Gaza as being in a state of “total collapse,” with doctors operating without anesthesia and fuel supplies critically low.
