The Voice Australia's much-loved star, Virginia Lillye, died on Sunday at the age of 56, after a two-year fight with advanced ovarian cancer.

Her death was announced by fellow Australian musician Don Spencer on social media. "I am terribly saddened to hear that the beautiful Virginia Lillye has lost her battle with cancer," he began when breaking the sad news.

"Virginia was not only an incredible talent but also one of the nicest people you could ever meet. She performed many times to help raise funds for The Australian Children's Music Foundation. She was an absolute showstopper. My deepest sympathy to Julian and her family. RIP."

Virginia spent decades touring the globe, sharing the stage with big names like Gene Simmons from KISS, Richie Kotzen from Poison and Gilby Clarke from Guns 'N' Roses, along with many of Australia's top acts.

However, the Sydney native was best known to many Australians for her stint on season nine of The Voice in 2020, where she made it through to the top 20 showdown rounds as part of Boy George's team.

Her life took a tragic turn in June 2023 when she was diagnosed with stage three ovarian cancer. Sadly, she didn't survive the diagnosis and died on Sunday.

Russell Crowe's ex-wife Danielle Spencer, daughter of Don who broke the sad news, posted a love heart emoji underneath her father's announcement.

Virginia's band paid a heartfelt tribute to their "queen", writing: "Virginia Lillye was hands down the quintessential rock goddess. There will never be another frontwoman like her... We love you dearly and you will never be forgotten. Riposa in peace our sweet Vinny."

Silverback Touring, a metal touring company, also expressed their sorrow, describing the star as "one of the biggest voices you'll ever hear and one of the warmest, most generous souls you could ever meet."

Fans quickly took to social media to express their heartbreak. "Awww... such sad news! ! ! Rest easy sweet angel! ! ! Another life tragically claimed by this devastatingly awful illness! ! !" one fan wrote on Don's post.

Another added: "Oh no such sad news she was an amazing lady."
