INTRODUCTION
" On the Job Training is still widely used today . It is a frequently used
method of training ; it requires only a person that knows how to do the task
and the tools the person uses to do the task . It may not be the most effective
or the most efficient method at times . Yet , it is normally the easiest to
arrange and manage ; the training takes place on the job , it can be highly
realistic and there are no requirement for transfer of learning . It is often
inexpensive since no special equipment are needed other than what is
normally used on the job."1 The previous passage is from wikipedia.com
describing on-the-job training.
As a student of Bachelor Science in Information Technology and as a
future IT personnel of a reputable company, the preparation for the next
chapter of student's life in the On-the-job training is really exciting; an
essential experience. Different activities, different sets of people, a new
pattern of daily living, these are the things that constitute an environment
which is not so similar on the things a student will see in a basic classroom
set up.
The Practicum is an actualization of what was heard , seen and
observed inside the lecture rooms . The students are given a chance to see
and experience what challenges their future job could offer . They can also
Narrative Report: A Narration of Experience in Management Information System Office
seek advices and tips from their immediate supervisors that are far more
having a lot of experience in their field of specialization .
The major objective of the Practicum is supported by different local
offices here in our province of Laguna. The heads of each office are having
an understanding and agreement with our school - the ACTS Computer
College in order for this helping party to prepare and establish the best
training for the future workers in the industry. The cooperating offices allow
the student trainees to work with their current employees, use different
equipment and tools, assist and support the assigned immediate trainor. With
this kind of set up, the trainees will surely learn more things; they experience
how to work in an actual work environment through the support of the
cooperating training stations.

NARRATION OF EXPERIENCE
The first step before getting to the actual training for Practicum is the
orientation rendered by Mrs. Guadalupe A. Rocamora, the OJT Coordinator.
On her lecture, she enumerated to the trainees all the important things such
as the pre-training requirements, post-training requirements and the numbers
of quality working hours needed for us to complete the said training course.
She said the baccalaureate students need to finish a four hundred (400)
hours training in our training station. We are also taught on how to prepare
our Personal Data Sheet together with an Application Letter which is needed
in applying as a trainee in any of the nearby offices for OJT.
I have chosen the Management Information System Office in the
Provincial Capitol as my training station. Before the training start, We are
advised seeing the Officer-in-charge for trainees like us in MISO, Ms.
Stephanie Reyes for our application. Miss Reyes gave us instructions to go
to the Human Resource Management Office of the Provincial Capitol to
acquire a copy of On-The-Job-Training Agreement/Contract. After completing
and submitting all the requirements, I started working as a trainee in MIS
Office . I started my night shift training in April 10, 2017.
During my first night as a trainee, I have experienced a lot of
adjustments are needed including the new environment, the office mates and
Narrative Report: A Narration of Experience in Management Information System Office
the schedule. I was so very nervous that time. For me, those new things are
very unusual.
Miss Reyes completed her orientation to us about the MISO
discussing the history, the policies/code of conduct and other important
things about the MIS Office. After the orientation, she had designated me to
assist Mr. Rodrigo Abasola and Mr. Reinier Malahito, my supervisor and
coordinator at MISO.
My first week as a trainee is very fulfilling. I have a very cooperative
and kind trainors and supervisors. I have been assigned to encode
information on Blue Card System.
Mr. Malahito also appointed me to maintain the computers in the
computer room. I always check the computers are properly unplugged after
use . I also need to do a regular housekeeping in the room to maintain the
cleanliness of the computers.
After two months of training , that was months of April and May 2017 ,
I can say that part of my improvement is my interpersonal skills wherein the
adjustments I am mentioning earlier were clearly complied . Those days of
training are very helpful . It has given me a lot of challenges and through that
Narrative Report: A Narration of Experience in Management Information System Office
I believe that I learned a lot of things that cannot be taught on a simple
lecture alone .
The third month have given me more challenge. The need to balance
my time for this month is highly required. The month of June 2017 is my first
month as a Fourth Year student. The time management skills arrived in my
list . It is really tiring to attend classes and at the same time think and work in
the evening. I surpassed this challenge and I am proud of it. It makes me feel
good that the difficulty just gave me strength to focus and do my job. I
managed to do two different things at the same time.
I can say that for almost three months of training , I have acquired
more confidence and learned a lot of things . I felt I am really working as an
actual employee in the Management Information System Office . My
(1)trainors make me feel I do belong to the firm . The MIS Office tasks given
to me helped me develop my skills in Database Management .
After completing the required hours of training in MIS Office I believe I
am seeing a better me. I now have better communication and social skills. I
am confident that I am ready to face more incoming challenges. I will
continue my journey as a future IT personnel equipped with all the
knowledge I had acquired from the Management Information System Office .

Tagging of Identification Cards
Spreadsheet Tasks (Microsoft Office Excel)
Database build-up and find lost records
Surfing the web
Browsing
Encoding document
Troubleshooting computer systems
The primary task assigned to the author are to tag ID cards ,

SKILLS/WORK HABITS LEARNED AND DEVELOPED
By objective, I believe that I have developed well my technical
knowledge. I have improved my skills in Database Management. Particularly,
I have learned powerful spreadsheet functions specifically the VLOOKUP. I
used to compare database records for ID tagging purposes.
I was assigned to do things related to the Blue Card System where I
also learned how to use printing equipment and different computer
peripherals.
Added to my inert qualities is the dedication to the assigned task and
skills in managing time. Based on my experience, sometimes over-time is
needed to finish a task assigned to you by your immediate supervisor. An
employee must do the task wholeheartedly. It is better to manage your time
wisely. Time management will be result to less occasion on needing long
hours to finish a given workload.
I have also acquired open-mindedness and social skills .
Understanding that people around us has differences . A good employee
must learn to respect the said dissimilarities in order to maintain harmony in
the working environment .
I enjoyed the most during my stay at MISO as a trainee is the
introduction to new technology and its application. The enthusiasm to
continue my career was fully developed even before I finish Practicum.

PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED / ACTION TAKEN
Like what many people said, "Experience is the best TEACHER."
Problems encountered with training add as the best flavor of learning. The
most remarkable problem I have encountered with the training is the problem
of understanding ambiguous instructions given by the trainors. Receiving
vague directions and applying an unsure actions to accomplish a task will
surely end to a bigger problem. At first as a subordinate, you feel ashamed to
ask the supervisor to repeat or explain again what he wants you to do. Being
shy to ask is a way of creating a communication barrier. To overcome this
kind of problem, the trainee must learn how to address the trainor in the
respectful manner in order for him to clearly understand the instructions and
avoid future conflicts.
Communication is very important to maintain a productive working
environment. To lessen worries and doubts, we must apply good
communication with the office mates. We need to improve our interpersonal
skills.
Narrative Report: A Narration of Experience in Management Information System Office
EXPECTED OUTCOME FROM THE TRAINING
As a trainee , I am expecting that there will be a lot of responsibilities
that will be assigned to me . Of course I am also looking forward to skills
acquisition . I also expect that I will learn things about business transactions ,
clerical works and use of computer applications . Considering that I am a
neophyte , I also expected a lot of error commission . Those mistakes that
will be committed will lead me to avenue of learning life lessons .
At first, my perception is that some of my co-workers in the office will
be difficult to be with, hard to get along with and will not assist me in some
difficulties.
Also on my expectations is enhancement of my soft skills , personality
and maturity . I also see at once that there will be a lot of pressure , and
stress during working periods . I am aware that there will be plenty of
challenges to me from my Training Station .
Beforehand , I also perceived that I will gain a lot of friends and
companion in the office . I am excited in making decisions that will let me
become more independent . I believe that the experience in Practicum will
help me a lot in seeking a place in job market .
Narrative Report: A Narration of Experience in Management Information System Office
REALIZATION OF EXPECTED OUTCOME
The conceived possible happenings the author has enumerated
on the previous section are nearly the same with the actual happening in the
training.
He found out that even work could probably produce stress , he can
actually manage the pressure present . The interest and motivation to finish a
task promptly led the author to have a positive response to most of the
challenges he encountered .
On the other hand, one of the author's misconception is the difficulty
to promote a harmonious relationship to people in the office. It is just that, the
author's fear of the introduction to new ideas led him to pessimism. He had
realized that people though having differences can be just as friendly as he.
The only key in order to have a good working relationship is to know how to
respect others.
Facing your fears makes you become braver. Learning and
accepting our own mistakes shows that an individual is brave and ready in
gaining enhancements of personality. Acceptance of correction whenever
you commit mistakes also shows that someone is actually going in mature
stage of thinking.
Narrative Report: A Narration of Experience in Management Information System Office
The most important learning the author could share with the readers is
that the acquisition of technical skills in training is only secondary. The
ATTITUDE is the great element that will lead anyone to fulfillment.
Punctuality is one of the best asset an employee must have. Being tardy
makes a person poor. Doing time wasting activities will let somebody's work
clutter. Pessimism will also make someone's performance very poor. Always
be motivated and keep the fire burning. Every single day of duty in your work
will become more fruitful and productive; you should continue to think
positively.

RECOMMENDATION
For the School
I am looking forward that the college will help Practicum students to
find companies where they can practice their field of specialization. I am
hoping that the college will have more company partners in the future. I also
observed that the college should monitor the trainees if they are really
performing their duties and responsibilities as a trainee. Maybe the college
should ask for a daily report from the trainee with the signature of the trainor.
For the Future Trainee
For the future trainees, they should apply to an office which is related
to their course in order for them to practice their specialization. They should
learn how to relate to their superior, co-workers and visitors in a proper way.
They should always listen to the instructions given by the trainor to avoid
other problems. They should have self confidence in doing their work or else
they will find it hard to accomplish every task to be assigned to them.
For the Cooperating Station
The cooperating station should help trainees to develop their skills and
self-confidence in order to improve their working relationship and avoid
miscommunication . They should accommodate every applicant if there are
vacancies at their company . The trainees will learn more knowledge about

business transactions and computer applications and it will help us build a
stronger work force .
