Computer Graphics: Chapter - 1 + 2

This document discusses computer graphics and image representation. It covers topics like object space and image space, pixels and image resolution, color models like RGB and CMY, color conversion between models, coding methods for images, cathode ray tubes for displaying images, and raster scanning. Image representation uses pixels arranged in rows and columns. Common color models are RGB, CMY, and HSV. CRT displays use electron guns, phosphor coating and raster scanning to display colors. Frame buffers store images for display and can be color frame buffers. Halftoning simulates continuous tone images using dots of varying size, shape or spacing.

What is an Image?

Image Representation

 Pixels or Picture elements arranged in a row column fashion to form a

rectangular image.

 Resolution = Number of pixel per inch.

 Image size = No of pixel in horizontal direction X No of pixel in vertical
direction (i.e. 640X480, 800X600).
 Aspect Ratio = width : height

Color Display
Cutaway rendering of a color CRT:

1. Three Electron guns (for red, green, and

blue phosphor dots)
2. Electron beams
3. Focusing coils
4. Deflection coils
5. Anode connection
6. Mask for separating beams for red,
green, and blue part of displayed image
7. Phosphor layer with red, green, and blue
zones
8. Close-up of the phosphor-coated inner
side of the screen
