DISC Assessment Paper

Shane Mastro took the DISC assessment and discovered he was an "I" (Influence) and "S" (Steadiness) type. He scored higher in the "I" category, which means he can be emotional, enthusiastic, and persuasive. As an "S" type, he is active and sometimes impatient. When building a spaghetti tower in a group, he was comfortable letting others speak while thinking of ideas. The group worked well together without a single leader. Mastro thinks others initially see him as quiet and shy, but after opening up he is more talkative, open, and fun. He believes he brings a good work ethic and encourages involvement to get the best results. The assessment

Disc Assessment

My results from taking the Disc assessment showed that I was an “I” and

a “S”, which falls into the “Influence and Steadiness” category. I scored higher

in the “I” part of the category than the “S” category. There were a few qualities

that were true about me in the “I” category. For example: I can be emotional,

enthusiastic and persuasive.   In the “S” category the qualities I definitely have

are being active and I can be impatient at times too.

When our group built our spaghetti and marshmallow tower, one thing I

learned about myself was that I was comfortable hanging back a bit and was ok

with letting others talking while I thought about how my ideas on how to build

the tower. I also noticed was that the other members in my group were

comfortable to work together, with no one standing out as the one “leading” the

group.  We all liked to work together to see what we could come up with,

listening to all of our ideas and then putting it all together, while other groups

had one person that stood out from the other members and took charge.

I think that the way others perceive me at first meeting is as quiet and

maybe even a little shy. I tend to watch first and want to know whether I can

trust you, and after I get to know you, I am more talkative, open and fun.

People usually perceive me as a gentleman, a kind and encouraging members of

the community and a good friend. I believe that I bring a great work ethic to

my group above all, good ideas and thoughts, and encourage everyone to make

their opinions known.  Which will lead/help us get the best results we can. I also

believe I am good at being a peace keeper also. I am very good at working in

groups so i will be able to get everyone involved.

I think that the assessment and the group project most helped me to

think about who I am and how I can work better as a member of a team.

Knowing what traits and or characteristics my classmates possess along with

my own can only lead to working together better with them during our group or

class work. I don’t think that there was anything that interfered with my

learning more about the DISC assessment.

I think that doing the DISC assessment in class was a great idea because

it showed us what we are comfortable with and what we personally can expand

and work on. I thought that at first the activities could be boring, and I wouldn't

enjoy it, but after participating, I enjoyed them more than I thought I would,

because Coach Powers made the examples given, real and relatable. Also, by

looking through my daily schedule and rating the items on a scale of 1-10 in

importance will help me to try make every day the best possible it can be.

Thinking about my time both academically, socially and athletically is important

because I need to divide my time in a way I can handle all my commitments.  I

think this could help me in football practices to step up on the on and off the

football field and during track season and showing that a leader doesn’t always

have to be the most vocal member and can show how to set a good example for

the younger guys on the team. I think it’s possible these exercises could help

me solve issues between teammates or even my friends because we learned

about how to talk or work best with all the different DISC personalities.
