Team/Employee Questions
1. What is your definition of a successful team/department?
A successful team is when a team can work together every day and support each other
throughout the day and the school year. Also a successful team is able to operate without their
supervisor being around them all the time. Their supervisor leads them, supports them, and encourages
them to grow; but their team can function without their supervisor for a certain time.
2. In this department, what does going ‘above and beyond’ look like? (trying to get to
Organizational citizenship behaviors)
In this organization going above and beyond is when a staff member goes out of their way to
support a fellow employee with a lesson, behavior management, ideas, or taking initiative to
lead the team when their site coordinator is not available.
3. How does this department/company measure performance?
The measurement of performance depends on each site and activity. In this current site the
performance is measured by the ability to perform through the day. This means performing and
enrichment activity, keeping students safe, and using judgement to make decisions. This is measured by
monthly observations that run throughout the year, at the end of each semester a full evaluation is
given to the employee. In the final evaluation the Supervisor gives them tools to help them improve
their skills for the future.
4. Can you walk me through the behaviors of your worse past employee?
An employee that could be labeled as “bad” would be someone who disregards the safety of
the students. This person wouldn't be able to be held accountable for their word and the
students would be unsupervise for the majority of time. they would come in late, not prep for
their lessons, or even call out from work.
5. Can you walk me through the behaviors of your best past employee?
A great employee is someone who utilises their time, by prepping their lessons for the day,
supports the students during their homework time, keeps the class engaged throughout the
lesson. Thinks outside the box to solve problems when they arise, asks questions when they
need it and keeps students and themselves safe.
Organizational Behavior Interview Questions
6. How does the company look for these best behaviors during the interview process? (i.e, tests,
assessments, questions asked, etc.)
The organization looks for the best behavior by interviewing and setting up scenarios to be able
to see how someone would handle the situation. From there the organization does have
personal development training where we help them develop skills that will help them on the
field.
Manager/Individual Questions
7. Can you describe your career journey up to where you are now?
I have been in this organization for five years, I started as a substitute Youth Leader until a year
that I was placed as a Kindergarten Youth Leader for two years From there I was moved from
the school and placed as a 6th grade youth leader for two years. Finally my supervisor saw that I
was ready and recently I have been moved up to site coordinator for a school. Everything I have
learned is because my supervisors took their time to teach me and explain to me. In addition I
took a lot of initiative to lead and support my coworkers in anything, from there I got confident
and started to support my supervisor in things I could do.
8. What is your management style?
My style could be labelled as democratic management, I will ask for input on the changes or for
ideas to plan and select lessons. I have noticed that most of my staff members feel comfortable
to come to me and ask if they can change or add to the lessons. I don’t control everything
because my staff members are the ones that see and interact with the students more than me,
they understand their students and know what works or doesn’t work for their class. But in
addition I have a structure, I tell me my expectations for them and hold them accountable for
their actions. There are rules for them to follow to keep them safe and the program functioning
and I expected to follow them, but from there their input is always welcome.
9. What skills do you think are most important to be effective in your position?
There’s three skills I believe are the most important for this position: Active listening,
Responsibility, and organization. Every day you need to be able to listen to what the other
people are trying to tell you because this could help you solve a problem or avoid having an
incident occur with a student. You also need to be responsible because others will hold you
accountable for your actions, also we are role models for the students and they need to see that
we take responsibility for what we say. Finally organization, running a school site requires for
you to remember dates, have notes, and remember names. You need to have a system to be
able to have everything organized and moving forward.
10. What are the challenges of managing employees in this department/company?
One of the challenges is their different levels of experiences on the field. I can have an employee
who has worked with kids for a long time and doesn;t need that much coaching, but I can also
have an employee who is their first time working with kids and requires more support. I need to
be able to identify their needs and help them develop their skills. From there I need to have my
team grow as well so I need to have a plan to develop their skills as a team but still keep in mind
who needs more support to be able to keep up with the team.
11. If you had a chance to change aspects of your job, what would it be?
Organizational Behavior Interview Questions
I don’t think I would change anything, our company is always developing their systems, training,
and ideas so we can keep up to date with our students' needs.
12. What are the goals that are set for you in your role?
One of the goals is to be able to lead my team and meet our requirements, to have an
encouraging culture of learning for our students.
Organization
13. Do individuals have incentive/rewards programs? What is the purpose? (i.e., increase
production, increase morale, retention, etc.)
There's no rewards program, but each site has their own way to show our gratitude towards our
staff members. It can be from food to a small get together with the staff before a break.
14. Do teams/departments have incentive/rewards programs? What is the purpose? (i.e., increase
production, increase morale, retention, etc.)
There's no rewards program, but each supervisor has their own way to show our gratitude
towards the team. Most of the time is a small get together before the holidays.
15. Can you walk me through the last change that was initiated (large or small)? What was it? Was
their resistance? Was the change lasting? How did it positively or negatively affect morale?
The last change that was made, was a small adjustment to the work hours for our staff. There
wasn’t any resistance, everyone was understanding the reason as to why we needed to adjust the hours.
16. What are the organizational goals of the company?
The company has many goals, but the main one is to create and encourage a safe learning culture for all
our students.
