Question 1
Discuss the most common design principles that should be applied to satisfy usability goals.
Note
Your answer to Question 1 MUST be posted on the appropriate link on myVista. The average
length of your initial response should be between 250 and 400 words. After posting your answer,
i.e the initial response, choose 2 responses from your classmates and make your contributions
based on their post, this is the follow up response, which should be polite, not more than 100
words and of value to the topic under discussion.
Follow up responses should be significant contributions to the Discussion. You may wish to
respond to your colleagues’ postings in one or more of the following ways:
Ask a probing question.
Share an insight from having read your colleague’s posting.
Offer and support an opinion or suggestion.
Validate an idea with your own experience.
Expand on the ideas in your colleague’s posting.

Question 2
(a) Modern software interfaces make use of different interaction styles, briefly describe any
five (5) of the interaction styles used. [5 marks]
(b) Find a “typical” Windows screen. Identify three elements of it that are based on a real-
world metaphor. [10 marks]
(c) Identify any 5 elements from any system of your choice that are based on a real-world
metaphor. Insert screenshots [5 marks]
Question 3
The UCD approach is at the centre of interaction design. A bad design can result in user
frustration and worst-case scenario, rejection of a system.
You are required to find a system that has bad interaction design.
Submit you evaluation of the system. You must take screen shorts of the areas that are badly
designed to back your argument.
