UNIT 3 : OFFICE ACCOMMODATION AND ENVIRONMENT
Office Accommodation refers to the selection of must appropriate office location, office building and other
facilities required for office. The appropriate office accommodation helps to achieve a business objective. It
supports employee for the successful accomplishment of their duty.
Under Office Accommodation and Environment, it consists of the following:
1. Location of Office
• It refers to the appropriate location for business. There are different nature and size of business
demand for different location. The location of the office affects the performance of the employee, if
the location is not good it may be an inconvenience to the employees, visitor, customer or any other
people that may have dealing with the organization. The location of the office must be determined
by the nature of business.
2. Office Building
• The Office Building must be suitable to the nature and size of the business. It can be available
through construction, rent or lease. It considers different factor before selecting building for an
office. It should be safety and security of the office and the staff of the office.
3. Office Layout
• Office Layout refers to the arrangement of a workstation in the space involve so that all equipment,
supplies, procedure and personal can function at maximum efficiency. In line with this, office layout
must be adaptable to meet volume changes, provide enough work and storage space, take account
of flow of work, allow easy access for employees, easy access to services and easy access to
equipment.
4. Office Environment
• By Office Environment we mean “working environment”. The environment, in which the office
employee performs office services. In office environment it includes working place, working
condition, working hours, working equipment’s and etc.
5. Types of Lighting Systems and Ventilation
• An office building should have adequate lightning and ventilation. It helps a lot to increase efficiency
and enhance worker’s morale. We lighted and ventilated accommodation to put less pressure on
the employees and also reduces the physical and mental stress and therefore the efficiency is
higher.
6. Interior Decoration
• This is an art on how you will decorate your office or business according to your preferences and
style. It includes selecting color schemes, flooring materials, furniture, artwork, and accessories. It
transforms an area into an aesthetically pleasing design.
7. Furniture
• In every office or business there is an appropriate furniture to be use inside the premises. It may
be the usual furniture that found in the office it includes desk, chairs and tables, racks, cabinets,
lockers, trays and etc.
To cover it all, every office must be located in a healthy and respectable area. It must be also convenient for
everyone and that will be free from any kind of destructions.
