This activity explores using local materials as art mediums by having students: 1) List materials found locally and note existing artworks made from each material by their locality. 2) Suggest their own artwork ideas using the listed materials. 3) Materials found locally include drink cans, bamboo, pebbles, plastic, grass, scrap wood, straw, anahaw leaves, shells, and mixed papers. Existing artworks range from lanterns to furniture to costumes. Student ideas include pencil holders, lamps, house decorations, street designs, and notebook designs.

EXPLORE YOUR LOCALITY

Find out what materials, which are potential to be used as art medium, are
rich in your locality (ex. Bamboo, metal, shells). List it down and name the
artwork created by your locality using these materials. On the other column, you
may write your own idea of artwork which you think is also great for the material
you listed. You may use another paper, if needed be.

Shells They made it into a Costume for It can be house design or
contest decorations
Mixed Papers They made it into a new paper It can be used as design in our
notebooks.
