What is input?
• Input is raw facts that are entered into the computer
• Input takes one of the following shapes:
• Data : Text , Letters , Numbers …
• Software instructions : code , programs
• User commands : controls , actions
• Responses : Reaction toward the computer question ,, save? Shutdown?

What is an Input device ?
• Device “hardware” used to enter data into the computer
• They come in different shapes according to the input type
• Keyboard , scanner , microphone are examples of input devices.

Inputting Text
• A keyboard is the main device to input Text
• It translates the keystrokes you make into a signal that the computer understands
• Classic keyboard – compact keyboard – Thump keyboard.

Inputting Sound
• Microphone is used to input sound into the computer.
• Sound must be in a digital forum so the computer can process.
• Sound card coverts the sound from the analog forum “natural” into a digital forum.

Inputting Images
• Scanning Devices , Digital cameras & webcams used to enter images into the computer
• Digital camera
• Takes the information from the lens and records it as pixels or small dots that form the image.
• It Has memory to store the pictures you take.
• Scanning devices
• Converts a paper document, photograph, digital code into a format that computer can process
• Sheetfed scanner. - Flatbed scanner &Bar code reader are some examples of scanningdevices

Inputting video
• Digital video camera is used to input videos
• Video capture card is used to convert analog video into digital
• Video capture card also compress files so they occupy less disk space

What is output?
• Output is the processed data “ information” that comes out of the computer
• Output takes one of the following shapes:
• Text
• Graphic
• Audio
• Video

What is an Output device
• Devices “hardware” used to get information out of the computer
• They come in different shapes according to the output type
• Monitor , speaker and printer are examples for output devices.

Output video & image
• Images and videos can be displayed using several ways.
• Video adapter plays a role before the final output gets to the monitor
• Video adapter saves images on its own memory “vRAM“ to free the main RAM
• Some Video adapters have a processing unit “GPU” so it processes data
• This will save the main CPU time

Printers
• NONE IMPACT
• No physical movement
• Inkjet : spraying ink , cheap
• Laser : laser beam to create an image >> drum >> the paper using toner
• IMPACT
• Physical movement : hummers and pins.
• Noisy and poor quality.

• Data projector : enables large groups of people to view the output
• High definition Tv : digital audio and video , Sharper images
Output Sound
• Speakers is the main device for outputting sound
• Sound card plays a key role in converting data so human can recognize
