Track 7

Hello, I’m Becky. I’m fourteen and I live in a big city. Two months ago, the people in my block of flats decided to
do something together to make our neighbourhood a better place.
All the flats in our building have balconies, but some of them didn’t look very nice. First, we decided to clean up
our balconies. Then, we put some flowers in flower pots on each balcony. Some people even planted small
trees in big flower pots or old bins, but our balcony isn’t big enough for a tree. Mum and I put a bird bath with
clean water on our balcony. I hope birds will come to drink the water or wash.
Next, we bought some second-hand chairs for the balconies. They were cheap, and we painted them red, blue,
green or yellow. We now have the prettiest balconies in the city! When the weather is good, we can sit outside
and talk – our balconies are very close together! Next month, we’re having a balcony party with cakes,
sandwiches and music. We hope our neighbourhood will be a friendlier place in the future. And it will be greener
too!
