questions and responses
Why do you like to watch TV?:
There are several reasons why I like to
watch TV. The main reason is that I can
relax my mind after working hard.
Watching cartoons, films, plays, and music
shows and so on is really very relaxing.
Secondly, TV is a great source of news. By
watching TV, I know what is happening in
my local area, in my country and in other
countries worldwide/around the world.
Another important reason is that I can get
knowledge of almost any field from science
to art, tourism, cultures, environment, and
so on. So, watching TV is great/fantastic.
Do you usually watch TV alone or with someone/your family?
 In general, I watch TV with my wife/husband. Sometimes we watch TV with our children
as well. We love watching cartoons together and have fun. I consider the time we watch TV
together very meaningful since my wife/husband and I work too hard and we don’t have
3
much time for our children. Therefore, when we watch TV with our children we have some
time to talk to them as well.
 In general, I like to watch TV alone since if we watch TV with someone, we may just talk
and do not really watch TV at all. Besides, I live alone and I just can watch TV late at night.

Do you have any other hobbies?

 Oh, yes. I like playing football/sports/________ with my colleagues/friends. (You
know), playing football/ sports/ _________ is a very good way to get to know people
and to make friends.
 Shopping with my family is also my hobby. We usually go shopping at weekends. I
love walking side-by-side with my wife/husband and our two children, talking and
choosing certain things to buy. We have good time shopping together.

Talk about fashion

 What kinds of clothes do you like wearing?
Honestly speaking, to me, getting dressed politely and appropriately means respecting
people around. What I like putting on depends on different situations. You know I am a
teacher. Therefore, I usually wear trousers and a white shirt as I do my teaching or attend
meetings at school. However, it does not mean that I always get dressed formally. I am
keen on jeans, or shorts and a T-shirt when I hang out with friends or go for picnics.
 Do you think you will always like these types of clothes?
You know fashion changes every day. A type of clothes may be ‘in’ today and ‘out’
tomorrow. Therefore, I am not sure of whether I will always like the types of clothes I have
just told you about. It is likely that I will be fond of something else. Logically speaking, my
favorite types of clothes change in relation to my age. Could you imagine? It is quite
possible that I might like to put on large pants and a shirt with long sleeves with a hat on
when I get to the age of 75.
 Where do you usually buy your clothes? Why?
I have to admit that I do not have any concrete fashion shops for my clothes. Sometimes, I
buy them in a certain store. Sometimes, I do it in a supermarket. Comparatively speaking, I
would prefer to get them in the supermarket. There are some reasons for this. Firstly, there
are various types of clothes of different trade-marks I can compare and choose. Secondly, I
do not have to bargain because all of the clothes have price tags on them. Thirdly, I am not
disturbed by salespersons. Finally, I feel comfortable getting around and choosing my
favorite clothes as the supermarket is always air-conditioned.
 Do you think it is important to dress well? Why?
As I have said earlier, getting well-dressed means showing respect to people around.
Moreover, we will feel more confident and comfortable in a polite set of clothes. As a result,
we will work more effectively. Most importantly, the fact that we dress well will help prove
our social status to people we contact at that moment.

Talk about things you find funny

 What things do you find amusing? Why?
You know that working as a teacher at school, I am up to my ears in work. I suffer a lot
from the working pressure. Therefore, I always want to release my stress by enjoying
something fun such as playing games and sports. Sometimes, I read comic books and funny
4
stories and feel fun, but I find comedies most highly amusing. What comedians like
Truong Giang, Tran Thanh, Viet Huong, Hoai Linh and so on say always make me burst
into a laugh and stay away from my tension at work.
 Do you like to tell jokes and make others laugh? Why or why not?
My answer is definitely yes for the following reasons. Firstly, telling jokes and making
other laugh at a right time and a right place will help people relax their mind and have fun.
Secondly, this is a very good way to build up a closer relationship with people around.
Everyone will get closer as they laugh together. Thirdly, laughing is good for health. It is
said that laughing is ten times as good as taking medicine. Finally, it is assumed that
humor and intelligence go together. You prove yourself to be intelligent by making others
laugh at something they have not heard before.
 Do your friends and family members have a similar sense of humor to you?
You might not believe this, but a lot of my colleagues have similar sense of humor. We like
to collect funny stories and tell one another about those. We all find them fun to laugh
together and release stress. What about my family members? We sometimes tell jokes as
we have dinner at home. We simple want to create a fun and cozy family atmosphere at the
dinner table and enjoy our meals at best.
 What do you think about humorous people?
Firstly, they are loved by other people because they know to create a fun atmosphere in
which people can reduce their stress and get closer to each other. Second, as I have said
earlier, intelligence and humor go together. Apparently, it is not easy to make others laugh.
To do this, people with sense of humor will have to create something new and come up with
a surprise ending that makes people laugh, not to mention their unique accent as they tell
jokes.
