Types of Computer:-
Computer types are classified according to size and functionality.
1- PC (Personal Computer)/Desktop:-
Features: -
Separate parts can be changed just in case of damage.
Not easy to get stolen due to big size.
Has a stable internet connection.
Disadvantages:-
Not portable.
Has a lot of trailing wires.
Takes a considerable amount of disk space.
2- Laptop/Notebook:-
Features:-
Portable, so you can carry it with you everywhere.
Battery operated.
Uses touch pad instead of mouse.
Can be easily linked to many multimedia.
Disadvantages:-
Can easily get stolen due to the portability.
Touch pad and keyboard may be awkward to use.
Has a limited life of battery.
3- Tablet:-
Features:-
High-Definition screen.
Anti-glare display.
Uses touch screen instead of conventional mouse and
Keyboard.
Battery life is bit longer than the laptop.
Has a front and back camera
Has many sensors to do the following :
o Accelerometer when user flips from portrait to
landscape.
o Proximity sensor to detect the unintended
touches.
o Speech recognition which helps user to ask
computer what to do.
Disadvantages:-
Memory and storage capacity is not that big as in laptop.
Typing on touch screen is slower and error-prone unlike the
Keyboard.
Using internet through 3G/4G and 5G is expensive.
4- Smart Phone/Pocket PC:-
Features:-
Very portable, since you can put it in your pocket.
Can make calls along with sending and receiving mails.
Battery-operated.
Streaming of music, radio and podcasts.
Shares data with smart watch through Bluetooth.
Disadvantages:-
Can easily get stolen or lost due to it’s lightweight.
Using 3G/4G and 5G for using internet is expensive.
Navigating Internet drains the battery so fast.
Not all websites are compatible with Phone operating
systems.
5- Smart Watch:-
Features:-
Wearable computer.
Can make calls while connecting to Internet.
Sharing Data with Smart Phone through Bluetooth.
Measure the health and fitness
Forecasting weather.
Has GPS(Global Positioning System) for locating any place
user looking for.
Disadvantages:-
Bulky and unattractive in design.
Uncomfortable in wearing.
6- Mainframe:-
Features:-
Room-sized computer.
Has a very fast and robust processor.
More than one C.P.U
Multi-operating systems can be working in it.
Has massive amount of storage capacity.
