The course will use CentOS which is a community distribution for
Red Hard Enterprise Linux
You need first to download a virtual machine. This is an open
source VM
After downloading it based on the operating system you’re using,
you’ll see an icon on your computer.
After downloading it, then inside it, you can install Linux

Click New
Now install Linux, provide the relevant details. Since there is no
option for CentOS, select Red Hat – (CentOs is a clone of Re Hat)
Give it 2GB RAM. This depends on how much memory you have on
your laptop. Otherwise give it 1GB.
Give it 15GB
Now the lab is created
For the Network settomg, click these options
New to follow additional steps to complete the VM Lab setup
Download it and store it somewhere on your computer
Once it’s available on your computer, install it
Once selected, it is now mapped. You can see where it is located
Now reboot the machine. Right click and click ‘Normal Start’
Now it is booting. Use the up and down arrow to navigate through
the installation steps. Hit Enter to Install CentOS 7
Now this loads the files from the DVD and stores them temporary
then the installer which start
This installer is written in Python
Select the location to setup the Date and Time
Select these options
When you click the Software part, it basically defines which media
you used to install the Lab
This is very important as it defines which type of mode you need
for installation. We need one with all features and tools
Compute is for cloud install
Server with GUI - is the best for learning. In Linux, command line is
the best thing to learn because it makes thing faster.
Don’t choose any add-on the left for now
Click Done
System part - Now choose where Installation Destination
This was previously set-up during the VM Lab settings, thus define
as below
Network & Host Name – This completes the internet connection
settings
Turn it on from the previous VM Lab settings
It is now connected based on the broadband wireless internet
In case you don’t have broadband wireless internet, you can
manually configure it
Now Begin Installation
Root Password - configure the Root Password. In Linux, this is like
the Admin account in Windows
User Creation - Set a User
Once installation is completed, reboot
Press - 1
Press - 2
Press - C
Press - C
After system will boot up
If the user was Tom, login
Now the system is set-up – Use Places and Applications Menu
Option to shut-down, Lock
