System Firmware Update Instructions

for SPH-T20BT

REMARKS:
✓ If you have any difficulty carrying out these instructions, please contact Pioneer Customer
Support. Once upgraded to this version, it is not possible to downgrade to a lower version.
✓ Please download and print these instructions before downloading and installing the
firmware update, it is important that you complete all steps correct and in the order
described below.
✓ Never turn your unit off or disconnect the USB storage device while the firmware is being
updated.
✓ You can only update the firmware when the vehicle is stopped and the parking brake is
engaged.
✓ Make sure to update the Smart Sync App on the tablet before pairing the tablet
again.

A. Displaying the firmware version


Check whether the firmware of your unit needs to be updated by checking the version number
of the firmware.

1. Start the vehicle engine.


2. If AV Source is On, Tap “Source OFF” on the Application list of the tablet.

3. Tap “PSS Settings” in the Application list of the tablet to display the “Settings” menu.
4. Tap “Information” to display the “Information” menu.

5. Tap “▽” to display the Firmware version.

6. After the “Device Information” screen appears, check the firmware version.

7. Check the firmware version; when the Version is lower than 8.13, it is necessary to
update the firmware.
B. Downloading the Firmware Update Files
1. Download the correct firmware file to a folder on your computer.
→ SPH-T20BT_FW_Ver813.ZIP
2. Double click the ZIP file to open it.
3. Extract and save the file "20TABLETRECEIVER_D0813.scd” to a folder on your
computer.

C. Updating the firmware on your Unit


IMPORTANT
✓ Please DO NOT perform this firmware update if the model number of your Pioneer unit is
anything other than SPH-T20BT
✓ Ensure that the correct update file is located within the root (top) folder of your USB
storage device. There should be no other files on the USB storage device.
✓ While your unit is being updated, DO NOT turn off the system’s power and DO NOT touch
the unit’s touch panel screen as this may result in severe damage to your unit.
✓ DO NOT remove the USB storage device during the firmware update.
✓ Performing the firmware update will restore all settings to their default values.
✓ Before you start the update procedure, make sure to disconnect any mobile devices that
are currently connected to your unit.

PROCEDURE:
1. Connect a blank (FAT32 formatted) USB storage device with a minimum capacity of
2GB to your computer, locate the update file “20TABLETRECEIVER_D0813.scd” and
copy it onto the Root (top) folder of the USB storage device.
2. Start the vehicle engine
3. Connect the USB storage device to the USB input on your unit
4. If AV Source is On, Tap “Source OFF” on the Application list of the tablet.
5. Tap “PSS Settings” in the Application list of the tablet to display the “Settings” menu.

6. Tap “System” to display the “System” menu.

7. Tap “Initial” to display the “Initial” menu.

8. Tap “Accessory software update”.


9. Tap “OK” to start update.

10. Wait until the Version Update is complete. (the update takes about 6 minutes)
During the update, the button lights / flashes in the following order.
1. Flashing orange (Checking for update files)
If it lights yellow, the update file is abnormal. Check if the correct file exists
2. Flashing red (Updating)
If it lights red, the update has failed. Disconnect / connect the USB storage device.
And start the update from the beginning.
3. Lights in green (Update successful)
4. Flashing orange (Initializing)
5. Lights in white (Power ON, Not connected to tablet)

11. The firmware update is now complete. Your Pioneer Tablet Receiver is now ready for use.
After the update is complete, the product and tablet pairing information will be
lost. Before using the product, pair the product with the tablet.

12. Check the firmware version as described in “Displaying the firmware version” to confirm
that the update was successful.
