Expanding our Discoveries

Welcome back, explorers! Last year in Grade 1, you discovered so much by doing activities and tasks! You
matched pictures, practiced tracing, sorted toys, explored shadows and opposites, and even helped cars find their
way! This year, we're going to build on those skills and dive deeper into the world of learning through play, con-
tinuing our journey to becoming lifelong learners!

What We'll Do This Year:

We'll revisit and expand on the activities and tasks from last year, and
we'll also explore new and exciting challenges that will help us develop
even more skills useful for everything we learn.

• Problem-Solving Activities/Tasks: These will challenge us to think creatively and logically to solve puzzles.
We'll be working on things like building shapes, putting things in order, and figuring out how to make things fit
together. These skills are important for tackling complex problems in any subject.

• Mind & Motion Activities/Tasks: These combine learning with movement and memory. We'll be playing

junk/unhealthy food. The objective is to draw a path through the maze, choosing the healthier food options at
each decision point to reach the dining table with the family. By making the right choices, learners will
understand the importance of healthy eating and the impact of food choices on well-being.

MATERIALS NEEDED

PROCEDURE

This activity challenges you to find a path through only

healthy food options to reach the family at the end. It helps
you learn to make better food choices for a healthier life-
style.

www.educobot.com 18
Learning Outcome: Students will develop an understanding of healthy eating habits and the importance of
making nutritious food choices. Through the maze game, they will learn how to differentiate between healthy
and junk foods, promoting positive dietary habits and reinforcing the concept of balance

MAGNETIC CAR MOVEMENT

Activity: In this hands-on activity, students will build a magnetic car by attaching a magnet on the car and using a
magnet-based stump as a control. When the car’s magnet faces the opposite polarity of the magnet on the
stump, the repelling force will push the car forward. If the magnets align with the same poles, the car will be
attracted and attach to the stump. The student can then use the magnetic interaction to control the car's
movement by adjusting the distance and orientation of the magnets.

SENSORY ORGANS SPINNER

Activity: In this interactive activity, students will assemble a sensory organs dial with an arrow. Once
assembled, the arrow can be spun, and when it stops, the student will identify which sense it has landed on,
such as taste, smell, sight, hearing, or touch. The student will then pick the relevant card from a set of images
associated with each sense. For example, if the arrow lands on taste, the student will choose the food card.
This activity helps students understand the different senses and the associated organs involved in each sense.

corresponding organs. They will develop an understanding of how sensory information helps us interact with the
world around us. This activity enhances cognitive development, motor skills, and sensory awareness through
hands-on exploration and visual learning.

RAMP RACER: EXPLORING INCLINED

how angles affect speed and movement.

SHADOW PLAY: SUN,EARTH AND

MOON IN ACTION
Activity: In this activity, two balls of different sizes represent the Earth and the Moon, placed parallel to each other on
plane (surface). A torch symbolizes the Sun, positioned at a fixed height. As the torch is turned on, observe how the sh
ows cast by the Earth and Moon vary in size. The position of the "Moon" (ball) relative to the "Earth" (ball) and
"Sun" (torch) can simulate different phases of the Moon or even eclipses.

mimics the real-world phenomena of solar and lunar eclipses, demonstrating how shadow formation depends
on the relative positions of the Sun, Earth, and Moon. This activity enhances students' understanding of the
science behind eclipses, orbits, and celestial mechanics.

BUILDING A PULLEY SYSTEM

Activity: In this activity, students will assemble a pulley system using the supplied parts. They will explore how
pulleys make lifting heavy objects easier. The student will connect the pulley, attach a string, and test how lifting
an object becomes more manageable when the force is applied through the pulley system. By applying force to
pull the string, the student will see how the pulley changes the direction and ease of lifting the load.
