What is a computer?

A computer is an electronic device that manipulates information, or data. It has the ability
to store, retrieve, and process data. You may already know that you can use a computer to type
documents, send email, play games, and browse the Web. You can also use it to edit or
create spreadsheets, presentations, and even videos.

Functions of the computer


A Computer has four primary functions.
 Input - Accepting data through device like keyboard and mouse.
 Process - Operating the data via the CPU
 Storage - Saving data in RAM or on hard Drives.
 Output - Producing result through monitor or printer.

Computer Hardware and Software


Hardware and software are two terms you've probably heard of at some point or another.
The odds are high that you use both on a daily basis, whether it's with your smartphone or personal
computer.

1. Hardware is any element of a computer that's physical. This includes


things like monitors, keyboards, and also the insides of devices,
like microchips and hard drives.
2. Software is anything that tells hardware what to do and how to do it,
including computer programs and apps on your phone. Video games,
photo editors, and web browsers ect.……..
Hardware and software are different from each other, but they also need
one another in order to function.

The Central Processing Unit (CPU) is like the brain of a computer. It’s the part that does most of
the thinking, calculating, and decision-making to make your computer work. Whether you’re
playing a game, typing a school assignment, or watching a video, the CPU is busy handling all the
instructions to get the job done.
The CPU is usually placed in a special slot called a socket on the computer’s motherboard, which is
like the main circuit board that connects all the parts of a computer. The CPU handles tasks like:
 Doing math calculations (like adding or multiplying numbers).
 Running apps or games.
 Helping the keyboard, mouse, and screen work together.
 Storing and retrieving information during tasks.
