PRACTICAL ASSESSMENT

TIME: 4 HOURS

INSTRUCTIONS TO CANDIDATE:
1. You are required to perform the following tasks
i. Prepare network cable
ii. Connect and Configure Network Devices
iii. Network Connectivity and Performance Testing
2. You have been provided with the following resources for the practical tasks:

i. Wireless Router
ii. Unmanaged switch
iii. 3, 1.5-metres UTP cable, cat6

iv. A minimum of 6 RJ45


v. Crimping tool
vi. Cable stripper
vii. Cable tester
viii. Cable Cutter
ix. 2 PCs installed with Microsoft Windows 10 Operating System (PC1, PC2)
x. Stable internet connectivity

TASK 1: Prepare Network Cable

a. Strip the outer insulation of the provided Ethernet cables for cable termination.
b. Terminate the cables using RJ45 connectors according to either the T568A or
T568B standard.
c. Test the cables using a cable tester to ensure continuity and correct wiring.

TASK 2: Connect and Configure Network Devices

a. Use the prepared Ethernet cables, to connect your 2 PCs (PC1 and PC2), the
switch and the wireless router to form a simple computer network. Ensure all the
devices are properly connected. Finally connect your set computer network to the
internet source to enable internet connectivity.
b. Open your browser on one of the connected PCs and access the router
configuration window.
c. Set the WAN/Internet settings of your router to Dynamic
d. Create Wi-Fi access in your wireless router using the following credentials;
SSID/Wi-Fi Name: Guest
Password: Guest123
e. Configure the LAN settings of your router using the Network address
192.168.1.0/24, allocate your router the first Usable IP address from this range.
f. Enable the DHCP Server of your router and set the preferred DNS to 8.8.8.8
g. Secure your router access by protecting it with a strong password.

TASK 3: Network Connectivity and Performance Testing

a. Using the Command Prompt, get the MAC address and the IP address for PC1
and PC2.
b. Using the PING utility, Ping PC1 from PC2
c. Open a web browser on PC1 or PC2, navigate to a speed test website and perform
the speed test.
d. Open a new tab from your browser and go to www.youtube.com to test on
internet connectivity.
